  • Taylor is entering the final season of his contract and said during the spring that he wants "to be a Colt for life," James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Taylor remains the clear centerpiece of Indianapolis' offense after handling 323 carries for 1,585 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2025. Though there is some uncertainty about Taylor's future with the Colts beyond 2026, the contract situation shouldn't interfere with his short-term fantasy profile, as the team has every reason to continue leaning on one of the league's few true workhorse backs while Daniel Jones (Achilles) works back to 100 percent form. Another high-volume season would keep Taylor firmly in the RB1 mix while strengthening his case for a new deal with Indianapolis, or a strong market as a free agent in 2027. Boyd also speculates that Taylor could hold in at training camp and work to negotiate an extension before the 2026 regular season.

  • Taylor is prepared to handle another massive workload in 2026, though the Colts are hoping to ease the load on their star running back, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports. "We definitely need to find ways to take some of that workload off him," running backs coach DeAndre Smith said of Taylor during the team's spring workouts, but coach Shane Steichen added, "It's hard to take (Taylor) off the field when he's running so good," and therein lies the Colts' conundrum. Taylor handled a league-high 323 rushing attempts in 2025, topping 300 for the third time in his career, and he managed to play in all 17 regular-season games for only the second time in six NFL campaigns. The Colts would like to ease some of the wear and tear on their star running back, but they likely won't feel comfortable doing so unless either 2025 fifth-round pick DJ Giddens or 2026 seventh-rounder Seth McGowan emerges as a capable alternative in the backfield.

  • Colts coach Shane Steichen told reporters this offseason that it's a "fair assessment" to have concern about Taylor's workload, but Steichen also said it's hard to take his star running back off the field when he's playing so well, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan reports. Steichen avoided the usual cliches about getting multiple running backs involved, instead telling reporters that he wants to see how Seth McGowan and DJ Giddens "come along" during training camp and then "go from there." In other words, Steichen isn't sure if he has another running back he can trust behind Taylor, who finished second at the position in both snap share (82.5 percent) and total offensive snaps (879) last season. Ameer Abdullah, now in Jacksonville, had a role as a third-down and hurry-up RB for part of the year, catching 16 passes on 85 snaps. The other running backs, including Giddens, barely saw the field unless it was on special teams or in the fourth quarter of a blowout. The Colts added McGowan in the seventh round this spring after taking Giddens in the fifth round last year, and their other depth RBs are all undrafted players with no meaningful NFL experience. Long story short, Taylor is primed for another huge workload, with the bigger concern being general offensive efficiency in Indianapolis as Jones comes back from major surgery to rejoin an offense that no longer has WR Michael Pittman (Steelers) or RT Braden Smith (Texans).

  • Taylor carried the ball 14 times for 26 yards and caught both his targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 38-30 loss to the Texans. It was the least productive game of the season for Taylor, as his longest run went for only eight yards and rookie DJ Giddens wound up leading the Colts with 30 rushing yards. Taylor missed his chance to catch James Cook for the NFL rushing crown, but he still wraps up an impressive campaign with 1,585 rushing yards and a career-high 18 TDs on the ground, along with a 46-378-2 line on 55 targets through the air. The 26-year-old RB will head into 2026 as the centerpiece of the Indianapolis offense.

  • Taylor rushed 16 times for 46 yards and a touchdown and brought in all three targets for 33 yards in the Colts' 48-27 loss to the 49ers on Monday night. Taylor salvaged his fantasy night with a one-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, which narrowed a 34-20 deficit. The star back otherwise was stonewalled on the ground for the majority of the night, although he made some solid contributions as a receiver. Taylor's rushing yardage total was his second lowest of the season, while his average of 2.9 yards per carry was a new low-water mark. He hasn't eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground since his memorable 244-yard performance against the Falcons in Berlin in Week 10, and he'll draw another tough matchup at home against the Jaguars in a Week 17 divisional clash Sunday.
