Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Set to work in committee

Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich suggested Tuesday that MarShawn Lloyd could be part of a backfield committee to begin the season while Josh Jacobs (personal) remains on the Commissioner's Exempt List, Weston Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports. "It's gonna be running back by committee for a little bit to see where everyone is at," Stenavich said. "[Lloyd] definitely has explosive ability, playmaking ability."Though he profiles as the most enticing fantasy option of a backfield group that includes Kaleb Johnson and Chris Brooks, Lloyd doesn't look like he'll be called upon to handle a workhorse role during Jacobs' absence. While Lloyd made it through training camp and the preseason healthy and flashed his upside as both a ball carrier and pass catcher, durability has not been his string suit in the NFL. The 2024 third-round pick been limited to just one career game on account of multiple soft-tissue injuries, in addition to an emergency appendectomy.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Now part of reconfigured backfield

With both Josh Jacobs (groin) landing on the Commissioner's Exempt List and Kaleb Johnson being acquired by the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, MarShawn Lloyd now finds himself in a reconfigured Packers backfield.Lloyd has appeared in just one regular-season game since being selected by the Packers in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but with Jacobs out of action for the time being Lloyd is now the top available option on the depth chart. Both Johnson and Chris Brooks -- who excels at pass blocking -- figure to factor into the mix sans Jacobs, but with Johnson just joining the team, Lloyd now finds himself as the favorite to pick up carries.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Records receiving TD in win

MarShawn Lloyd rushed six times for 17 yards and secured his only target for an 11-yard touchdown in the Green Bay Packers' 33-13 preseason win over the Broncos on Friday.Josh Jacobs (groin) was not in uniform Friday, paving the way for Lloyd to see meaningful early-game action for the second straight preseason contest. Lloyd found tough sledding on the ground against a talented Denver defense, but he capped off the Packers' opening drive with his 11-yard touchdown reception. Lloyd may have the inside track to the No. 2 running back role despite playing just one regular-season game in his first two seasons, although that may not be official until the Packers' preseason finale next Friday at home against the Cardinals.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Gets start in preseason opener

MarShawn Lloyd carried the ball four times for 13 yards in Thursday's 28-9 preseason loss to the Steelers. With Josh Jacobs (groin) sidelined, Lloyd got the start for the Green Bay Packers but saw limited snaps alongside other members of the first unit like QB Jordan Love. Jacobs' status this season is clouded due to off-field issues, and nagging injuries are par for the course with him, so the identity of Green Bay's RB2 holds more importance than usual. Lloyd appears to be getting the first crack at securing the role, but he'll need to prove he can stay on the field -- he's played just one NFL game since being taken in the third round of the 2024 draft.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Packers exercising caution with workload

GM Brian Gutekunst said Thursday that the Green Bay Packers continue to be "pretty cautious" with MarShawn Lloyd in the early stages of training camp, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.A 2024 third-round pick, Lloyd has made only one appearance as a pro due to a cascade of health concerns through his first two seasons. Despite entering training camp at full health, as coach Matt LaFleur told Ryan Wood of USA Today last Wednesday, Lloyd so far has displayed his speed and explosiveness, including running a seam route 25 yards downfield earlier this week. With Emanuel Wilson moving on in free agency in the offseason, Lloyd's main competition for the No. 2 RB job behind starter Josh Jacobs (groin) is Chris Brooks, who currently resides on the active/non-football injury list due to a hamstring issue.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Being ramped up at camp

MarShawn Lloyd enters training camp at full health, but Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday that the team will "gradually" ramp him up for the season due to the running back's past injury history, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports.LaFleur said Lloyd won't necessarily be on a rep count, but it sounds like Green Bay will take some extra precautions with the 2024 third-round pick's workload, at least during the early stages of training camp. Wood reports that Lloyd took part in team drills on Wednesday, seemingly without any restrictions. With Chris Brooks (undisclosed) beginning camp on the active/non-football injury list, Lloyd currently has a path to work as the unquestioned No. 2 backfield option behind Josh Jacobs and build some early momentum.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Taking part in OTAs

MarShawn Lloyd (calf/hamstring) is participating in OTAs on Wednesday, Weston Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Packers' official site reports.Lloyd missed the entire 2025 season due to a hamstring injury suffered during the preseason, and then a calf issue he sustained while rehabbing. That said, Green Bay had left the window open for Lloyd to make a potential postseason return. The 2024 third-round pick is now heading into Year 3 with only one career regular-season appearance under his belt, so his focal task this offseason will be to prove he can remain healthy. Lloyd did not take any team reps Wednesday, per Ryan Wood of USA Today, so at this stage the Packers may still be taking a cautious approach to his activity level.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Returns to IR

The Green Bay Packers placed MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) on injured reserve Friday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.Lloyd temporarily came off injured reserve Wednesday, but he will now return to IR to keep the 24-year-old eligible to return for the playoffs. Emanuel Wilson is the only fully healthy running back for the Packers heading into Week 16 against the Bears, as Josh Jacobs (knee/ankle) and Chris Brooks (chest) are both questionable for Saturday night.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Ruled out, unsurprisingly

MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring) is officially ruled out for Saturday's road game against the Bears, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Packers' official site reports.Lloyd came off IR temporarily on Wednesday, as part of Green Bay's reported plan to place him back on IR, to make it possible for the 2024 third-round pick to get healthy in time for a return during the playoffs. With Josh Jacobs (knee/ankle) and No. 3 back Chris Brooks (chest) both officially questionable to face Chicago, Emanuel Wilson is the only fully healthy member of the Packers' backfield.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Comes off IR temporarily

The Green Bay Packers activated MarShawn Lloyd (calf/hamstring) from injured reserve Wednesday, per the NFL's transaction log.According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, this move is merely procedural so Green Bay can place him back on IR with the aim to get him back in the playoffs at some point. If said transaction occurs before Saturday's contest at Chicago, Lloyd would be eligible to return as soon as the divisional round. For the time being, though, the Packers will roll with the combination of Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks (chest) behind No. 1 RB Josh Jacobs (knee/ankle).
