Report: Chiefs cut WR Donnie Avery after two seasons
The Kansas City Chiefs have released wide receiver Donnie Avery on Tuesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Avery signed with the Chiefs in 2013 after posting career highs in catches (60) and receiving yards (781) with the Colts in 2012. He appeared in all 16 games in his first season with Kansas City, turning 72 targets into 40 catches for 596 yards and two scores. Last season, he was limited to only 15 catches for 176 yards in six games.

Alex Smith among Chiefs' inactives for Week 17
The Kansas City Chiefs listed quarterback Alex Smith as inactive for Week 17’s game against the Chargers. Smith is suffering from a lacerated spleen which is expected to keep him out for six weeks. Other inactives included Donnie Avery, Phillip Gaines, Marcus Cooper, Eric Kush, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Nick Williams. Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe (shoulder) and running back Jamaal Charles (hamstring, ankle) were listed as questionable, but are active.

Four healthy scratches pepper inactive list for Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs report more healthy scratches than injured players on their Sunday injury report. The three who are ailing are wideout Donnie Avery (groin), cornerback Phillip Gaines (concussion) and defensive end Allen Bailey (concussion). The healthy scratches are quarterback Aaron Murray, offensive linemen Eric Kush and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and tight end Richard Gordon.

Chiefs' Allen Bailey out for Sunday, Tamba Hali questionable
On the team's final injury report of the week, the Kansas City Chiefs list defensive end Allen Bailey(concussion) as out for Sunday's game. Bailey missed last week's game as well. Cornerback Phillip Gaines (concussion) is considered as doubtful. Linebacker Tamba Hali, who participated on a limited basis Friday, is questionable for Sunday with a knee injury. Hali missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. He has five sacks and three forced fumbles this year. The following players are listed as probable: Husain Abdullah, Donnie Avery, Jamaal Charles, Anthony Fasano, Junior Hemingway, James-Michael Johnson, Joe Mays, Chris Owens and Sean Smith.

The Kansas City Chiefs enter their Week 14 showdown vs. Arizona relatively healthy, according to its final injury report released on Friday. 13 of the 15 players on the report were listed as probable. Defensive end Allen Bailey and wide receiver Junior Hemingway were both ruled out with concussions. Chiefs' pass catchers post mediocre performances vs. Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce led the team with just 36 receiving yards Sunday, catching all three of his targets in his team's 29-16 loss to the Broncos in Week 13. It was a rough day all around for the Kansas City offense, which managed only 151 total yards despite scoring two touchdowns and a field goal. New addition Jason Avant followed Kelce on the leaderboard with 30 yards while catching two of his four targets. Tight end Anthony Fasano made his only reception count, hauling in a 20-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Nominal No. 1 receiver Dwayne Bowe only managed to catch two of his five targets for just 18 yards while wide receiver Donnie Avery caught one of his two targets for 20 yards. The Chiefs passing attack will look to deliver a much stronger performance against the Cardinals in Week 14.

Chiefs list Week 13 inactives vs. Broncos
The Kansas City Chiefs have listed the following players as inactive for Sunday night's matchup with the Broncos: wide receiver Junior Hemingway (concussion), cornerback Jamell Fleming (hamstring), tight end Phillip Supernaw, quarterback Aaron Murray, center Eric Kush, tackle Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and defensive tackle Nick Williams. Hemingway was previously ruled out on the team's final injury report. Fleming had been listed as probable to play in Week 13. The team will have both defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson (calf) and cornerback Chris Owens (knee, abdomen) after both players were listed as questionable.
