Falcons sign OT Jake Long to play-and-pay deal

Offensive tackle Jake Long has signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons that has a play-and-pay structure with no guaranteed money, Field Yates of ESPN reports.  The nature of this deal, with a good chunk of the money tied to incentives, indicates that Long's market has dried up for teams looking to take any risk on the 30-year-old, former first overall pick. It's a low-risk deal for the Falcons, who will probably wait a while for Long to get into shape before working him into the depth chart. Long isn't likely to overtake Jake Matthews, but he could have a shot at time at right tackle if Ryan Schraeder underperforms. That is, of course, if Long can stay healthy.

Giants still searching for offensive line help after Will Beatty's injury

The New York Giants are still searching for able bodies after left tackle Will Beatty's injury, per nj.com. The Giants brought in former top-overall pick Jake Long for a recent visit, but general manager Jerry Reese says the team is still looking for more help. "We'll continue to look around," Reese said. "Obviously, everybody has around 90 men on their roster right now, so there'll be some cuts; there will be some chances to add some offensive linemen." Long is coming off of consecutive season-ending knee injuries, which can explain why the Giants would be hesitant to sign him just yet.

With Long's status in doubt, Rams plan to start Robinson at LT in '15

While veteran tackle Jake Long's status for 2015 remains up in the air as he returns from a second torn ACL in as many seasons, St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher indicated Greg Robinson will be the team's starting left tackle next season. "We’re going to wait and see for Jake and see how he’s feeling," Fisher said. "He’s been in the building the last couple of days. All indications are that he wants to come back. Yeah, as we stand right now Greg’s going to be our left tackle." If Long decides to return next season, the Rams are already considering where he might play along the offensive line. "Jake’s a good enough athlete that he could play -- I’m not going to go out on a limb and say he could play center -- but yeah, he could play guard or play right tackle, I believe,” Fisher said.
