Browns' Cade York: Shows off leg Sunday

York successfully made two of three field-goal attempts and both extra-point kicks in Sunday's preseason game against Philadelphia.

York showed off for the home crowd at FirstEnergy Stadium, booting a 50-yarder with plenty to spare for his first make midway through the second quarter. He later nailed a chip shot from 19 yards as the first half ended. The one miss was from 55 yards; it had the distance but bounced off the right upright. "It felt good off the foot," York told Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site. "I honestly thought I made it until I looked up. It was a good hit, it just went right off the upright." The rookie kicker, who has drilled several from 50 and beyond during camp, is 3-for-4 on field goals and hasn't missed an extra point during preseason action.

  • Panthers' Zane Gonzalez: Makes both kicks

Gonzalez made his only field-goal attempt and extra-point try in Friday's 20-10 preseason loss to the Patriots.

Gonzalez converted from 27 yards on his lone field goal, which along with a third-quarter PAT, netted him four points total. After inking a two-year deal with the Panthers this offseason, Gonzalez will return as the team's kicker after notching 82 points in 12 appearances for Carolina last season.

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: No misses Friday

Fairbairn was successful on his lone field-goal attempt and made all three extra-point kicks in Friday's preseason win over the Rams.

Fairbairn knocked a 42-yard field goal through the uprights and is 2-for-3 through two preseason games. His lone miss was a 59-yard attempt at the end of the first half in the opener. Houston's first-team offense led by starting quarterback Davis Mills has not looked good thus far, averaging just 1.96 yards per play through its first seven drives of the preseason. Not all the starters are playing, which factors into the limited production, but the Texans may rely heavily on Fairbairn in 2022.

  • Wil Lutz K | DEN

Saints' Wil Lutz: Shows impressive range

Lutz made his lone field-goal attempt and extra-point attempt in Friday's 20-10 preseason loss to the Packers.

Lutz underwent core-muscle surgery in August of 2021 that kept him sidelined for the entirety of the campaign. He showed no signs of rust Friday, converting a 59-yard field-goal attempt at the close of the first quarter. Lutz has a strong track record of being an accurate kicker and appears to be back to form and ready for the regular season.

  • Saints' John Parker Romo: Back with Saints

New Orleans re-signed Romo on Friday, Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

The Saints had waived Romo just five days prior to signing him again. It's unlikely he'll push Wil Lutz for the role of starting placekicker, but Romo could perhaps earn a spot on the practice squad if he boots the ball well during practice.

Browns' Cade York: Wins rookie award

York was named the winner of the Maurice Bassett Award, which is given annually to the most outstanding rookie in Cleveland's training camp, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.

York earned the title with what has been a near-flawless camp. He successfully booted 28 of 30 field-goal attempts during competitive situations, and his final kick during Tuesday's session, from 54 yards, split the uprights with plenty to spare. There's a lot of hype surrounding the rookie, who's lived up to it thus far, but he'll need to deliver in regular-season contests, and in weather rarely experienced growing up in Texas or kicking for LSU.

  • Brett Maher K | LAR

Cowboys' Brett Maher: Still competing for kicking job

Maher and Lirim Hajrullahu will continue to get equal opportunities in camp as neither one has pulled ahead in the race to win the kicking job for the Cowboys, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Hajrullahu saw action with Dallas last season in Week 10, connecting on all five of his extra-point attempts without getting a field-goal attempt, but Maher has more NFL experience and played 29 games for the Cowboys in 2018-19. Unless one of them starts to impress, however, this battle may not be decided until after the final preseason contest -- and may even be won by a different kicker entirely, depending on who gets cut by other teams.

  • Gabe Brkic K | GB

Packers' Gabe Brkic: Moves to IR

Brkic (hamstring) reverted to Green Bay's injured reserve list Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Brkic tweaked his hamstring during pre-game warmups ahead of Friday's exhibition against the 49ers, and he was subsequently waived with an injury designation by the Packers on Sunday. The rookie kicker was initially brought in to help shoulder Green Bay's kicking duties as starter Mason Crosby has dealt with knee issues this offseason. Brkic is now set to miss the entirety of the 2022 regular season, barring any injury settlement.

  • John Parker Romo: Let go Monday

Romo was waived by the Saints on Monday.

Romo signed with New Orleans in March as an undrafted free out of Virginia Tech. The rookie will now pass through waivers with the hopes of landing with a new team in need of kicking competition this preseason.

  • Chiefs' Harrison Butker: Dealing with sore ankle

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Butker missed Monday's practice due to a sore ankle, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Butker has made at least 89 percent of his field goals in all five of his seasons with Kansas City and is signed through the 2023 campaign. While the issue isn't expected to be serious, the Chiefs may opt to sign an emergency kicker for Saturday's preseason matchup with Washington.
