  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: Could miss upcoming preseason game

Fairbairn could miss the Texans' upcoming preseason contest with an undisclosed injury but should be fine moving forward, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

By all accounts, it doesn't look like Fairbairn will miss much time, if any. The Texans kicker is dealing with an undisclosed injury that is not expected to linger for much longer. Barring any unforeseen setbacks, Fairbairn is on course to be the team's starting kicker for the regular season opener.

  • Raiders' Eddy Pineiro: Suffers apparent injury in practice

Pineiro left Wednesday's practice early with an apparent injury, Jerry McDonald of the East Bay Times reports.

The timing of the injury could not have been worse for Pinerio who had reportedly been widening the gap between him and Mike Nugent for the starting job. Details regarding the extent of the injury have not yet been released. As long as Pineiro doesn't miss too much time, he still figures to be the favorite as the regular season quickly approaches.

  • Matt Bryant K | ATL

Falcons' Matt Bryant: Nearing a return

Bryant (undisclosed) kicked during Wednesday's practice and will be a game-time decision for Friday's preseason game against the Chiefs, Kelsey Conway of the Falcons' official site reports.

It's encouraging to read that Bryant was able to kick 15 attempts during Wednesday's practice, hinting that he is closing in on a return. Even if he doesn't play in Friday's preseason contest, Bryant appears to be on track to play in the team's dress rehearsal game barring any unforeseen setbacks.

  • Raiders' Eddy Pineiro: Lengthening lead for kicking duties

Pineiro appears to be a heavy favorite for the Raiders' placekicking job, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Pineiro knocked home five of his six field-goal attempts on the skinny goal post at Tuesday's practice, with a long of 50 yards. He continues to display accuracy from any distance, converting all three of his field-goal attempts in Thursday's preseason opener. While Mike Nugent remains on the roster, it would likely take a disastrous finish or an injury to keep Pineiro from winning the starting job.

  • Cairo Santos K | CHI

Jets' Cairo Santos: Sidelined by recurring groin issue

Santos has dialed back his kicking during camp due to a groin issue that has resurfaced from years' past, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.

Santos hopes to return to the field soon, but no timeline has been placed on that at this point. When healthy, he's likely the favorite to win the Jets' kicking duties, but rookie Taylor Bertolet will attempt to make a name for himself during camp to enter the mix.

  • Matt Bryant K | ATL

Falcons' Matt Bryant: Questionable for Friday's preseason contest

Bryant (undisclosed) will kick off to the side during Monday's practice and remains questionable for Friday's preseason game against the Chiefs, Jason Butt of The Athletic reports.

Bryant is also planning to kick during Wednesday's practice as he eases his way back from an undisclosed injury, so at that point, his status for Friday's tilt should be clear. The 43-year-old isn't dealing with a long-term issue at this point, but backup kicker David Marvin could continue to see additional reps throughout training camp.

  • Vikings' Daniel Carlson: Perfect in Vikings debut

Carlson converted both field-goal attempts, including a 57-yarder, and made all four extra-point attempts in Saturday's preseason win over Denver.

Carlson handled all the field-goal and extra-point attempts while Kai Forbath handled kickoffs. It's likely the two will switch roles in the second preseason game. It's just one preseason game, but Carlson may have moved ahead of Forbath in the battle for the placekicker job with an impressive game.

  • David Marvin K | ATL

Falcons' David Marvin: Misses first field-goal attempt

Marvin was unsuccessful in his lone field-goal try during Friday's 17-0 preseason defeat at the hands of the Jets.

Void of timeouts in the waning moments of regulation, Atlanta tried to sneak in a last-second field goal to at least avoid a shutout in its first game of the preseason. Out trotted Marvin -- the backup kicker for the SEC Champion Georgia Bulldogs last season -- but his first foray in the National Football League was a disappointing one, with the rookie pushing his attempt wide right as the clock expired. Marvin does not deserve to shoulder all the blame, however, as the situation was in complete disarray with the offense neglecting to hustle off the field on the previous play, while the snap and hold from his batterymates were far from flawless.

  • Jason Myers K | SEA

Seahawks' Jason Myers: Drills 43-yard field goal Thursday

Myers made a 43-yard field goal in Thursday's 19-17 preseason loss to the Colts.

Myers has the tough task of battling Sebastian Janikowski for the starting kicker position. Janikowski was given a $600,000 signing bonus while Myers' base salary is $705,000, so the cards are stacked against Myers versus the seasoned veteran.

  • Trevor Moore: Cut loose by Bucs

The Buccaneers waived Jones on Tuesday.

Moore was brought in to compete with Chandler Catanzaro for placekicking duties for the Bucs, but he must not have made enough of an impression to stick around. Assuming he passes through waivers unclaimed, the rookie kicker would be free to sign elsewhere.
