  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: Remains limited in practice

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy (toe) will be limited in practice Wednesday, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.

Shanahan added that Purdy is "steadily getting better every week" from the turf toe injury that has sidelined him for five of the last six games. This comes on the heels of Shanahan telling Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area on Monday that it'll be a "stretch" for Purdy to return to action Sunday at Houston. Nevertheless, Purdy's status will continue to be watched as the week goes on to get a sense of who between him and Mac Jones will be under center for the 49ers in Week 8.

  • Bryce Young QB | CAR

Panthers' Bryce Young: Officially DNP to begin week

Young (ankle) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.

According to Joe Person of The Athletic, Young attended Carolina's first session of Week 8 prep in uniform and without a walking boot for the high-ankle sprain that he suffered this past Sunday at the Jets. Coach Dave Canales told Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340 after practice Wednesday that the team isn't ruling out Young for Sunday's game agains the Bills, instead calling the third-year quarterback "day-to-day." Typically, such an injury results in a multi-week absence, but it appears both Young and backup QB Andy Dalton remain in the mix to start Week 8.

  • Falcons' Michael Penix: To be limited Wednesday

Coach Raheem Morris said Penix (foot) remains "day-to-day" and will be listed as limited on Wednesday's injury report, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.

Penix was visibly hobbled late during this past Sunday's 20-10 loss at San Francisco in which he completed 21 of 38 passes for 241 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, had two carries for six yards and lost a fumble. According to Raimondi, Morris added that he feels good about Penix heading into the weekend, but his status still will be watched in the coming days to get a sense of his availability for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Kirk Cousins is on hand in the event Penix ultimately isn't able to go Week 8.

  • Justin Fields QB | NYJ

Jets' Justin Fields: Week 8 starter TBD

Fields said Wednesday that he hasn't been told if he or Tyrod Taylor (knee) is in line to start Sunday's game against the Bengals, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.

Coach Aaron Glenn noted Wednesday that Taylor was managing a knee issue, but that didn't prevent the QB from splitting practice reps with Fields in the Jets' ensuing practice. With that in mind, it doesn't appears as though Taylor's Week 8 status is in any danger, which keeps him in contention to draw the start this weekend for the 0-7 Jets. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN, Glenn declined to name the team's starter Wednesday while indicating that he wants to create a competitive advantage by keeping Cincinnati guessing which signal-caller to game plan for.

  • Lamar Jackson QB | BAL

Ravens' Lamar Jackson: Back at practice

Jackson (hamstring) was spotted on the field for Wednesday's practice, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Jackson looks set to take part in his first practice since injuring his right hamstring in a Sept. 28 loss to the Chiefs. Though Jackson appears likely to be a limited participant Wednesday, the Ravens will reveal the extent of his activity when the team releases its first Week 8 injury report following the practice session. In Jackson's absence, the Ravens -- who had a Week 7 bye -- have gone 0-2 with Cooper Rush as their starter.

  • Will Howard QB | PIT

Steelers' Will Howard: Practice window opens

Howard (hand) was designated to return from the injured reserve list Wednesday.

The 2025 sixth-round pick from Ohio State fractured a bone in his hand in early August, causing him to miss the Steelers' first six games this season. He now has 21 days to be added to the team's active roster before reverting to IR. Once fully healthy, Howard is expected to compete with Mason Rudolph for the Steelers' No. 2 quarterback spot.

  • Marcus Mariota QB | WAS

Commanders' Marcus Mariota: On track to start Monday

Mariota is in line to start Monday's game against the Chiefs, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Per Jhabvala, Jayden Daniels is dealing with a low-grade hamstring strain and is not on track to play this week, positioning Mariota for his third start of the season. Mariota thus represents a Week 8 fantasy lineup option for those who roster Daniels or who are otherwise in need of quarterback help, with six teams on bye this week. In his previous two starts against the Raiders and Falcons in Weeks 3 and 4, respectively, Mariota went 1-1 while completing 31 of 48 pass attempts for 363 yards, three touchdowns and one interception while adding 60 yards and another score on eight carries.

  • Jayden Daniels QB | WAS

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Not on track to play Week 8

Daniels (hamstring) is expected to sit out Monday's game against the Chiefs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Daniels suffered a low-grade right hamstring strain during Washington's loss to the Cowboys in Week 7, and while it's encouraging for the second-year quarterback to have avoided a long-term injury, he still appears set to miss at least one contest while working his way back to health. The signal-caller's expected absence sets up Marcus Mariota for his third start of the season Monday in Kansas City. Meanwhile, head coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday that top wide receivers Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) and Deebo Samuel (heel) are both trending in the right direction and expected to practice this week, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

  • Tyrod Taylor QB | NYJ

Jets' Tyrod Taylor: Day-to-day with knee issue

Taylor, who is a candidate to start Sunday's game against the Bengals, is considered day-to-day with a knee injury, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Meanwhile, coach Aaron Glenn noted Wednesday that he doesn't want to reveal his Week 8 starting QB for competitive reasons, per Eric Allen of the Jets' official site. With Taylor now managing a knee issue, the QB's upcoming practice participation is slated to add context with regard to his status, but if available this weekend, Taylor could supplant Justin Fields as the 0-7 Jets' starting signal-caller.

  • Carson Wentz QB | MIN

Vikings' Carson Wentz: Full participant Tuesday

Wentz (shoulder) was a full participant at Tuesday's walk-through practice.

Minnesota listed Wentz as a limited participant Monday on its initial Week 8 practice report due to his lingering left shoulder injury, but the quarterback never seemed to be at any risk of missing Thursday's game against the Chargers. Head coach Kevin O'Connell put to rest any concern about Wentz's status earlier Tuesday, announcing that the 32-year-old will make his fifth consecutive start Thursday while J.J. McCarthy (ankle) is set to be inactive as the team's emergency No. 3 quarterback. McCarthy is expected to reclaim starting duties once he's deemed 100 percent healthy, something that could happen as soon as Week 9 in Detroit. Over his prior four starts, Wentz has gone 2-2 while completing 66.9 percent of his passes for 7.5 yards per attempt and tossing five touchdowns against four interceptions.
