  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

    Jets' Sam Darnold: Making progress

Darnold (shoulder) "looked good" at practice Wednesday, according to coach Adam Gase, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

"From what he's saying right now, he feels good coming into practice today," Gase noted before Thursday's practice, in which Darnold will be listed as as a limited participant, per Connor Hughes of The Athletic. The next hurdle for Darnold will be reestablishing his throwing velocity, but as things currently stand the QB is trending in the right direction in advance of Sunday's game against the Bills.

  • Browns' Baker Mayfield: Coach takes blame for performance

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said he has to be a better job of varying pre-snap counts for Mayfield (ribs/chest), Ellis L. Williams of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. "Varying those snap counts. Not letting teams time it up. Getting the play in quickly so we can line up and are not up against the clock. Because that is one way to jump, for a defense, they are just staring at that play clock," said Stefanski.

Mayfield has come under a lot of scrutiny following last week's loss to the Steelers, and neither the quarterback nor the head coach would use Mayfield's injury as an excuse for his two interceptions, poor reads or predictable snap counts. Mayfield practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday, but he participated more this week than he did last week, according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal.

  • 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: Clear of ankle injury

Garoppolo (ankle) wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report.

Garoppolo's appearance on the Week 7 injury report wouldn't have been shocking after he missed Weeks 3 and 4 due to a high right ankle sprain. Additionally, coach Kyle Shanahan held Garoppolo out of the second half in his return to action Week 5 against the Dolphins, seemingly as a precautionary measure. Garoppolo then put together a season-best effort Sunday versus the Rams, completing 23 of 33 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns. With his ankle injury behind him, he'll take aim this weekend at New England's ninth-ranked pass defense (219.8 yards allowed per game).

  • Tyrod Taylor QB | GB

    Chargers' Tyrod Taylor: Upgraded Wednesday

Taylor (ribs/chest) was a full participant during Wednesday's practice.

Prior to a Week 6 bye, Taylor had missed the past four games after receiving a pain-killing injection prior to a Week 2 loss to the Chiefs that accidentally punctured his lung. Though Taylor is apparently back to full health, coach Anthony Lynn already confirmed earlier this month that Justin Herbert would serve as the Chargers' starting quarterback moving forward. Taylor should now assume backup duties for the Week 7 game against Jacksonville, with Easton Stick relegated to the No. 3 position on the depth chart.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Hoping to play Sunday

Darnold (shoulder) took first-team reps in practice Wednesday and is hoping to suit up Sunday against the Bills, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Coach Adam Gase said the team will evaluate Darnold as the week progresses and will have him split first-team reps with Joe Flacco. Gase noted that the most important factor in determining a Week 7 starter will be based on how Darnold's shoulder responds Thursday after he resumed throwing the ball Wednesday. If Darnold is able to suit up Sunday, he could finally have the top three receivers on the Jets' depth chart available to him, with rookie Denzel Mims (hamstring) expected to make his NFL debut alongside Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman.

  • Browns' Baker Mayfield: Limited in Wednesday's practice

Mayfield was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice with a chest injury, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Mayfield had to be removed from Sunday's blowout loss to the Steelers while struggling through what had previously been labeled as a rib injury, but the Browns reportedly think the quarterback is on track to suit up at Cincinnati in Week 7. If the signal-caller is able to upgrade to practicing in full Thursday or Friday, any lingering doubts about his availability will dissipate.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: On pitch count at practice

Darnold (shoulder) will be a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

Specifically, Jets head coach Adam Gase noted that Darnold will be on a "pitch count" Wednesday. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, the key to gauging the quarterback's chances of returning to action Sunday against the Bills is how well his shoulder responds to the throwing he does Wednesday. If Darnold is unable to go this weekend, Joe Flacco would draw a third straight start under center.

  • Marcus Mariota QB | WAS

Raiders' Marcus Mariota: Comes off IR

The Raiders activated Mariota (pectoral) from injured reserve Tuesday.

Mariota picked up a strained pectoral in the later stages of training camp and opened the season on IR. The Raiders opened his 21-day window to be activated to the active roster Sept. 30, so the team used the entire three weeks to ensure his health before bringing him back. Expect Mariota to serve as Derek Carr's backup moving forward.

  • Tua Tagovailoa QB | ATL

Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Named starting QB

The Dolphins have named Tagovailoa their starting quarterback moving forward, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The fifth overall pick of the 2020 draft, Tagovailoa made his long-awaited pro debut at the end of Sunday's 24-0 victory over the Jets, completing both of his passes for nine yards. While his stint of 2:27 on the field wasn't extensive, it was enough for coach Brian Flores to make the move from graybeard Ryan Fitzpatrick to Tagovailoa, whose college career came to a close last Nov. 16 when he suffered a dislocated and fractured right hip. Miami currently is in the midst of its bye week, so Tagovailoa's debut will have to wait until Nov. 1 against the Rams.

  • Kyler Murray QB | MIN

Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Three TDs in hometown return

Murray completed nine of 24 pass attempts for 188 yards and two touchdowns, adding 74 rushing yards and one rushing TD on 10 carries during Monday's 38-10 win against the Cowboys.

After winning three state titles for nearby Allen High School, Murray made his first trip to AT&T Stadium as a pro. The 23-year-old signal-caller may have completed a career-low nine passes during the contest, but he still made plenty of big plays. In addition to another electrifying performance on the ground, Murray connected with Christian Kirk for an 80-yard TD at the 4:43 mark of the second quarter, and he also found DeAndre Hopkins for a 60-yard gain on his first completion of the second half. Murray has averaged 1.7 passing TDs and one rushing TD per game as the Cardinals prepare for a Week 7 matchup against Seattle's 19th-ranked scoring defense.
