  • Lions' Matthew Stafford: Not practicing Thursday

Stafford (hip/back) was held out of Thursday's practice, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.

With back-to-back absences to kick off Week 11 prep, Stafford is trending in the wrong direction to make an appearance Sunday against the Cowboys. The Lions will hold one more session Friday, at which point they may make a decision on his availability. If Stafford misses a second straight game due to fractures in his back, he'll yield quarterback duties to Jeff Driskel.

  • Brian Hoyer QB | LV

Colts' Brian Hoyer: Returning to backup role

Coach Frank Reich said after Wednesday's practice that Hoyer would return to the backup role behind Jacoby Brissett (knee) in the Colts' Week 11 game against the Jaguars, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports. "I'm assuming [Brissett is] going to be good and barring any setback the rest of the week, he'll be the starter," Reich said.

Brissett missed the Colts' Week 10 loss to the Dolphins with a sprained MCL, an injury he sustained the week prior in Indianapolis' loss in Pittsburgh. As a result, Hoyer was pressed into action for his first start since 2019 and struggled mightily against one of the NFL's worst pass defenses, completing only 18 of 39 attempts for 204 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Brissett's ability to practice without any restrictions Wednesday was enough for the Colts to sign off on him playing this weekend, and Reich apparently has no plans on re-evaluating the No. 2 spot on the depth chart in the wake of Hoyer's poor outing. Chad Kelly was elevated from the practice squad to serve as the backup in Week 10, but he'll presumably be released or stick on the 53-man roster as the No. 3 option moving forward.

  • Case Keenum QB | CHI

Redskins' Case Keenum: Out of protocol

Keenum (concussion) isn't listed on the Redskins' injury report Wednesday.

Out of the NFL's protocol for head injuries, Keenum is set to be active for the first time since Week 8. On Sunday against the Jets and beyond, though, he'll serve as the backup to rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins, an arrangement which likely will hold for the rest of the campaign.

  • Lions' Matthew Stafford: Held out of practice Wednesday

Stafford (back) didn't practice Wednesday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.

Prior to his surprise absence this past Sunday at Chicago, Stafford practiced in a limited capacity. Upon further examination of his back injury, though, multiple fractures were discovered, and he eventually was ruled out. After the contest, coach Matt Patricia said he considers Stafford "day by day, week by week," per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. If Wednesday's session is any indication -- Stafford didn't do much beyond some light throwing on the side -- he seems to be more on the week-to-week side of the equation. Another absence from Stafford in Week 11 against the Cowboys would thrust Jeff Driskel into a starting spot yet again.

  • Colts' Jacoby Brissett: Trending toward return

Brissett (knee) will be a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.

Coach Frank Reich verified Wednesday that he expects Brissett to draw the start during Sunday's game against the Jaguars, barring any setbacks. With No. 2 quarterback Brian Hoyer coming off a three-interception performance in the Week 10 loss to the Dolphins, Brissett's return to the starting lineup would offer Indianapolis' offense a well-timed chance to get back on track.

  • Drew Lock QB | SEA

Broncos' Drew Lock: Designated to return

Lock (thumb) returned to practice Tuesday, meaning he's one of the Broncos' two players designated to return from IR, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.

This is Lock's first time on the practice field since Aug. 19, as he's rehabbed a sprained thumb in his throwing hand. The Broncos are currently deploying Brandon Allen under center with Joe Flacco (neck) on IR, and they have until Week 14 against the Texans to activate Lock. Coach Vic Fangio has already named Allen the starter for this Sunday's matchup against the Vikings, but Lock -- a rookie second-round pick -- could serve as his backup if he's activated.

  • 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: Commits three turnovers

Garoppolo completed 24 of 46 passes for 248 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Monday night's 27-24 overtime loss to the Seahawks. He also was sacked five times and lost two fumbles.

Garoppolo led the Niners to points on both of their first two drives, capping the second with a 10-yard touchdown toss to Kendrick Bourne, but his performance wasn't very pretty afterward. Following a string of punts, he was sacked and stripped for a Seahawks touchdown prior to halftime, then was picked and lost another fumble on consecutive drives during the second half. Although Garoppolo's interception actually bounced off the hands of his intended target first, marking just one of multiple drops committed by Niners receivers, the quarterback was also fortunate Seattle dropped a couple would-be picks. After an underwhelming outing overall, Garoppolo will look to get back on track in Week 11 versus the Cardinals, who he lit up for four touchdowns in their earlier meeting this season.

  • Russell Wilson QB | NYG

Seahawks' Russell Wilson: Wins second straight OT contest

Wilson completed 24 of 34 passes for 232 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Monday's 27-24 overtime win over the 49ers.

Wilson was uncharacteristically inefficient in the first half, as he was sacked on third down twice and completed seven of 11 passes for 73 yards, although he would have added a touchdown if rookie DK Metcalf hadn't had the ball stripped at the goal line right before halftime. The QB came out firing in the third quarter, converting his next seven passing attempts for 46 yards and a touchdown to Jacob Hollister. However, with a 21-10 lead in hand, the six-time Pro Bowler coughed up a fumble that DeForest Buckner returned for six to bring the 49ers back into the game. Wilson came up clutch at the end of OT, as he ripped off an 18-yard run and completed three passes for 15 yards to set up Jason Myers' game-winning field goal. The Seahawks have closed the gap in the NFC West and are 8-2 heading into their bye week.

  • Colts' Jacoby Brissett: Status could become clear Wednesday

Brissett (knee) could have his availability for Week 11 determined by Wednesday, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports. "If he's practicing on Wednesday and taking a full practice, you know, at that point we'll say we're ready to go," coach Frank Reich said Monday.

Despite practicing in a limited capacity last week, Brissett was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins due to a left MCL sprain suffered one week prior. As intimated by Reich, Brissett's upcoming availability likely depends on his activity level at Wednesday's practice. Consequently, how he's listed on the ensuing injury report could offer a hint at Reich's eventual decision. If Brissett begins to trend toward another absence, veteran Brian Hoyer is available for another start.

  • Raiders' Nathan Peterman: Won't be returning from IR

Peterman (elbow) is not eligible to return from injured reserve in 2019 after the Raiders chose to activate Marquel Lee on Monday, Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

There was a small chance Peterman could've been activated from IR at some point after his stellar preseason, but those hopes have now been extinguished. The 25-year-old is a restricted free agent in 2020, but it's not necessarily a guarantee that Peterman will return to the Raiders next season.
