  • Browns' Shedeur Sanders: Still expected to play in 2025

Sanders (coach's decision), who is inactive as the Browns' emergency third quarterback for Sunday's game against the Vikings in London, is expected to play at some point during his rookie season once the coaching staff deems him ready, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Though Cleveland has elected to bench Joe Flacco after he led the team to a 1-3 start through the first four weeks of the season, Flacco will suit up as the No. 2 quarterback ahead of Sanders while the Browns turn to rookie third-round pick Dillon Gabriel to make his first NFL start. Gabriel had been serving as Flacco's top backup in each of the previous four contests, and the 24-year-old has already made a strong impression on the coaching staff in practices and in two spot appearances late in blowouts due to his ability to get the ball out quickly and process the defense. That being said, the 5-foot-11 Gabriel's lack of ideal size and physical tools could work against him in his development as an NFL-level starter, so if he's unable to find much success in his first few extended appearances, the Browns could eventually turn the offense over to Sanders. Rapoport notes that because the Browns designed their Week 5 game plan with Gabriel's aptitude as a runner in mind, Cleveland was reluctant to appoint Sanders to the No. 2 role right away as part of a game plan that wouldn't be tailored to his strengths. Ideally, if and when the Browns decide to have Sanders play, he'll get a full week of practice with the first-team offense in advance and will have a game plan built specifically for his skill set.

  • Tyler Huntley QB | BAL

Ravens' Tyler Huntley: Elevated from practice squad

The Ravens elevated Huntley from the practice squad Saturday.

With Lamar Jackson (hamstring) ruled out, Huntley will operate as the Ravens' QB2 behind Cooper Rush on Sunday against Houston.

  • Desmond Ridder: Let go by Vikings

    Minnesota waived Ridder on Saturday.

Ridder joined the team in September after J.J. McCarthy suffered an ankle injury but didn't see any playing time. The Vikings are now left with Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer as the only healthy quarterbacks on their roster for Sunday's game versus the Browns.

  • J.J. McCarthy QB | MIN

Vikings' J.J. McCarthy: Remains out for Week 5

McCarthy (ankle), who has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Browns in London, didn't practice Friday due to rainy conditions, Alec Lewis The Athletic reports. "We wanted to be smart with that," head coach Kevin O'Connell said, regarding McCarthy's continued absence from practice. "But I'm very much looking forward to spending some time with him next week. We'll see where he's at coming out of the [Week 6] bye."

The Vikings were hopeful McCarthy would be able to return to practice this week, but he still hasn't taken part in any on-field work since sustaining a right high-ankle sprain in the team's Week 2 loss to the Falcons. With McCarthy still sidelined, Carson Wentz is slated to draw a third straight start at quarterback Sunday. O'Connell has previously said McCarthy will need a full week of practice before he can return to action, though it's not clear if the second-year signal-caller will regain the starting job once he's formally cleared. After the bye week, the Vikings will host the Eagles in Week 7 on Oct. 19.

  • Jayden Daniels QB | WAS

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Wearing brace in return to action

Coach Dan Quinn said Daniels will wear a brace on his left knee in his return to action Sunday at the Chargers, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

Daniels came out of a Week 2 loss at Green Bay with a sprained knee and missed the next two games as a result. With a trio of full practices under his belt this week, though, he's good to go for Week 5 action. The skill positions for the Commanders have taken a hit since Daniels' last game action, as RB Austin Ekeler is out for the season due to a torn Achilles and WRs Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) and Noah Brown (groin/knee) didn't make Thursday's trip to Los Angeles. As a result, Daniels' top targets Sunday will be WR Deebo Samuel (heel) and TE Zach Ertz.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: Without Irving and Evans in Week 5

Mayfield (knee/right biceps) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game at Seattle, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

After sitting out Wednesday's practice due to knee and right biceps injuries, Mayfield logged back-to-back full sessions to end Week 5 prep, clearing him to continue to lead Tampa Bay's offense Sunday. He'll be without the services of RB Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder) and WR Mike Evans (hamstring) this weekend, though, meaning the key skill-position players available to the quarterback are RBs Rachaad White and Sean Tucker, WRs Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka and Sterling Shepard and TE Cade Otton.

  • Cooper Rush QB | BAL

Ravens' Cooper Rush: Drawing start in Week 5

Rush is slated to start at quarterback in Sunday's game against the Texans, Brian Wacker of The Baltimore Sun reports.

With Lamar Jackson (hamstring) set to miss his first game for injury-related reasons since 2022, Rush will step in to make his first start as a member of the Ravens. Over his previous eight seasons in the league, Rush made 38 appearances and 14 starts for the Cowboys, completing 60.7 percent of his passes for 6.4 yards per attempt and a 20:10 TD:INT. Though Rush has been capable as a game manager when called upon to start, he brings little running upside to the table, thereby limiting much of his appeal as a fantasy option. In order to ease the burden on Rush in his first start of 2025, the Ravens could favor a run-heavy game plan led by Derrick Henry so long as the contest remains competitive.

  • Lamar Jackson QB | BAL

Ravens' Lamar Jackson: Ruled out for Sunday

Jackson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Texans.

After being forced out of this past Sunday's 37-20 loss to Kansas City, Jackson was unable to practice in any fashion this week. Now that he's officially been deemed out for Sunday's contest, Cooper Rush is slated to start in his place. Jackson's next chance to play will arrive Week 6 against the Rams on Oct. 12, though Brian Wacker of The Baltimore Sun previously reported Tuesday that Baltimore is bracing for a 2-to-3-week absence from the two-time league MVP. The Ravens have a bye coming up Week 7, so it may be a prudent approach for the team to hold Jackson out for the next two games to ensure he makes a full recovery from the hamstring injury and is ready to go for the second half of the season.

  • Lamar Jackson QB | BAL

Ravens' Lamar Jackson: Still not practicing

Jackson (hamstring) wasn't spotted at practice Friday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Jackson also didn't practice Wednesday and Thursday, so the star QB is trending toward an absence from Sunday's game against the Texans. Friday's final injury report will reveal whether he's ruled out or the door is left open at all for him to suit up this weekend. If Jackson isn't able to face Houston, Cooper Rush would be on track to start in his place, with Tyler Huntley a candidate to be elevated from the practice squad.

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: Could miss additional time

Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed after Thursday's 26-23 overtime victory over the Rams that Purdy is without a timeline for a return after a recent MRI revealed that he aggravated a turf toe injury in the Week 4 loss to the Jaguars, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. "He's week-to-week," Shanahan said of Purdy. "Don't know how [the toe] will heal."

With the toe injury keeping Purdy out for the third time in four games, backup Mac Jones made another start at quarterback Thursday and guided the 49ers to a win, despite working with a depleted pass-catching corps. Jones' solid work when called upon this season could prompt the 49ers to take a cautious approach with Purdy, who didn't practice at all this week and may not be ready to play in the team's Week 6 game at Tampa Bay, despite benefiting from a longer turnaround ahead of that Oct. 12 contest. The 49ers will likely have another update on Purdy's status when the team begins Week 6 prep next Wednesday.
