  • Sam Bradford QB | MIN

Cardinals' Sam Bradford: Loses starting job

Bradford has lost the starting job to Josh Rosen, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Bradford put up just 20 points and committed six turnovers in three games, eventually getting benched during the fourth quarter of Sunday's 16-14 loss to the Bears. It remains to be seen if he'll be active for Week 4 as the backup quarterback, given that the Cardinals can avoid some of his roster bonuses if he isn't on the 46-man gameday squad. It would be cheaper for the team to use Mike Glennon as the backup for Sunday's game against Seattle.

  • Colts' Jacoby Brissett: Used on final play Sunday

Brissett replaced Andrew Luck on the final play of Sunday's loss at Philadelphia. He threw a 60-yard Hail Mary pass that fell incomplete on his only pass attempt.

With the Colts needing a long Hail Mary to win the game, Brisset was used for his stronger arm. Luck is clearly the starting quarterback, but the move could be seen as the team still having some concern about Luck's shoulder after he missed all of last season. Notably, head coach Frank Reich said Brissett's usage was only because of his strong arm.

  • 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: Out for season with ACL tear

Garoppolo has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, bringing his 2018 season to an early end, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

An MRI confirmed what the 49ers had feared, leaving C.J. Beathard as their new starting quarterback. The silver lining is that Garoppolo went down in September, likely giving him enough time to rehab before Week 1 of 2019. He finishes his brief season with a 59.6 completion percentage and 5:3 TD:INT, but he did produce an impressive mark of 8.1 yards per pass attempt.

  • Marcus Mariota QB | WAS

Titans' Marcus Mariota: Still limited by injury

Coach Mike Vrabel said there are still throws Mariota can't make as he works his way back from an elbow injury, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

Mariota replaced Blaine Gabbert (concussion) early in Sunday's 9-6 win over Jacksonville, completing 12 of 18 passes for 100 yards and adding 51 yards on seven carries. The Titans went ultra-conservative on offense while playing with a limited quarterback, and the plan worked out surprisingly well thanks to a big day from their defense. Vrabel said he hopes to have the full package of plays available when the Titans host the Eagles in Week 4. The situation still needs to be monitored closely, as the team might consider starting Gabbert if he clears the concussion protocol before Mariota's elbow is fully healthy.

  • 49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo: 'All indications' that ACL is torn

San Francisco general manager John Lynch told Peter King of NBC Sports that he believes Garoppolo (knee) suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's 38-27 loss to the Chiefs. "All indications are that [Garoppolo's ACL is] torn," Lynch said. "Our [medical] guys say they've been wrong before and so they need to do the MRI, obviously."

Lynch's comments validate the fears head coach Kyle Shanahan said he had Sunday regarding Garoppolo's knee injury after the quarterback departed in the fourth quarter of the contest. Even if tests clear Garoppolo of any ligament damage, it seems safe to conclude that he'll miss time due to injury, paving the way for C.J. Beathard to start behind center Week 4 against the Chargers. Expect the 49ers to relay a formal diagnosis for Garoppolo's injury shortly after the results of his MRI become available Monday.

  • Browns' Baker Mayfield: Officially named starter

Head coach Hue Jackson officially announced Mayfield as the Browns' starting quarterback Monday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

It was only a matter of time until Jackson handed the No. 1 overall pick the keys to the offense, but Mayfield's impressive regular-season debut in last Thursday's comeback victory over the Jets gave the coach no choice than to do so as soon as possible. Considering Mayfield racked up an efficient 201 passing yards in just over two quarters of play last week, it may not be long until he becomes worthy of starting consideration in single-quarterback fantasy formats. In fact, Mayfield could make for an intriguing, high-upside fantasy play off the bat given Cleveland's Week 4 matchup with a Raiders defense that has surrendered 8.7 yards per pass attempt this season.

  • Tyrod Taylor QB | GB

Browns' Tyrod Taylor: Slated to back up Mayfield

Once he's cleared from his concussion, Taylor will serve as Baker Mayfield's backup.

Taylor's concussion Week 3 opened the door for Mayfield to step into the fray Thursday night against the Jets. The rookie's sharp performance in the Browns' 21-17 win then left little doubt that he'd draw the start for a Week 4 game against the Raiders. Unless Mayfield falls completely flat, or suffers an injury, Taylor will continue on as veteran QB insurance and as a mentor to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

  • Tyrod Taylor QB | GB

Browns' Tyrod Taylor: Not at practice

Taylor (concussion) isn't at practice Monday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

With Baker Mayfield expected to be named as the Browns' starting quarterback later in the day, Taylor's practice availability shouldn't have much impact on the game plan for Week 4 against Oakland. The Browns will turn to Drew Stanton for the backup job if Taylor isn't cleared from the concussion protocol by Sunday.

  • Lions' Matthew Stafford: Leads upset over New England

Stafford completed 27 of 36 passes for 262 yards with two touchdowns and one interception during Sunday's 26-10 victory over the Patriots. He added 10 rushing yards on his lone carry.

Stafford built upon his solid Week 2 performance and is quickly making everyone forget about how this Lions team got blown out by the Jets in Detroit's season opener. In this one, Stafford outdueled Tom Brady by stringing together long drives in order to keep the Patriots offense on the sidelines. The Lions dominated time of possession roughly 39 minutes to 21. This development was largely a result of Detroit's newfound success in the run game, headlined by the fact that Kerryon Johnson became the organization's first 100-yard, single-game rusher since November of 2013. Sustained success on the ground may be a threat to Stafford's overall workload going forward, but there's an argument to be made that an effective running game could help the quarterback sustain drives and get his team into scoring position more frequently. Next up for Stafford is a Week 4 road matchup against a Cowboys defense that has allowed just 6.3 yards per pass attempt this season.

  • Mitch Trubisky QB | TEN

Bears' Mitchell Trubisky: Fails to find end zone

Trubisky completed 22 of 35 passes for 220 yards and one interception in Sunday's 16-14 victory over the Cardinals.

The Bears fell behind by 14 points early, forcing Trubisky to have to throw the ball often, but he consistently was off-target when throwing downfield passes. Once the defense toughened up, helping Chicago get back into the contest, they were able to lean upon their rushing attack to get the victory, relegating the quarterback to game-manager duties. Through three games, he's averaging fewer than 200 passing yards and less than one touchdown, making him a low-upside fantasy option. He'll face the Buccaneers in Week 4.
