Wenning, signed last week while two of the Bills' quarterbacks had concussion, was released by the team Saturday, Mike Rodak of ESPN reports.

Wenning's chances of winning a role on the final roster were slim, so this decision is unsurprising. He was fourth on the team's depth chart, so he would have really needed to make an impression last week to earn a role with the team. The 26-year-old will either land on the team's practice squad or be forced to look elsewhere for a new opportunity.

The Patriots are trading Brissett to the Colts in exchange for wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Buried in the No. 3 spot on the depth chart with his former team, Brissett is now a candidate to make early-season starts for a Colts franchise that just watched Scott Tolzien stink it up in the preseason. While the 2016 third-round pick may not have enough time to prepare as the starter for Week 1, he should be an upgrade on Tolzien as the long-term backup for Andrew Luck (shoulder), who isn't expected to be ready for the beginning of the season.

Smith will enter the season as the Giants' backup quarterback after Josh Johnson was released Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Smith and Johnson vied for the job throughout the offseason and preseason, with the latter even earning a start at one point. However, Smith must have proved the health of his right knee enough to earn the trust of the coaching staff. Although Eli Manning has started 199 consecutive regular-season games, Smith will now be called upon in garbage time or in the event of an injury. Rounding out the QB depth chart is 2017 second-round pick Davis Webb.

Johnson was released by the Giants on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Johnson was entrenched in a battle with Geno Smith for the No. 2 job behind starter Eli Manning. Neither was particularly impressive in preseason action, but it seems the Giants are simply more comfortable with Smith. The team's No. 3 QB, 2017 third-rounder Davis Webb, was never in danger of losing his roster spot because of the draft capital the team invested in him.

McGloin was released by the Eagles on Friday, Martin Frank of the Delaware Journal reports.

McGloin's underwhelming preseason performance did little to encourage the Eagles to carry three QBs into the regular season. He's immediately eligible to sign elsewhere.

Liufau (knee), who completed 16 of 28 passes for 170 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Thursday's preseason contest against the Redskins before suffering an injury, is expected to be waived by the Bucs and subsequently revert to injured reserve, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.

Liufau also rushed three times for nine yards in what was by far his most extensive action of the preseason. As per Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, Liufau's injury is considered relatively minor, so he will revert to non-season-ending injured reserve. Factoring in Liufau's status and Ryan Griffin's shoulder injury, the Bucs appear likely to head into Week 1 with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick as the only other healthy quarterback on the roster outside of Jameis Winston.

Barkley was cut by the 49ers on Friday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Barkley's professional star has faded despite four seasons in the league. He played in seven games for the Bears in 2016, but his stint resulted in just an 8:14 TD:INT ratio. The 26-year-old failed to beat out C.J. Beathard for a backup gig with the 49ers, but there's still a possibility he finds a backup job elsewhere.

Beathard has officially won the backup quarterback job in San Francisco following the release of Matt Barkley on Friday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The announcement was simply a formality, as Beathard had been the first to relieve starter Brian Hoyer in the 49ers' last two preseason contests. The rookie signal caller started Thursday's preseason finale against the Chargers, completing five of nine passes for 31 yards while adding 80 yards on the ground, including an impressive 62-yard touchdown run. Beathard possesses some mobility, but don't expect huge runs like this if and when he gets a shot to start a regular-season game down the road. The third-round draft pick won't move the needle in redraft leagues as a backup, but he could find himself starting games at some point this season given Hoyer's long injury history.

Knight was waived by the Cardinals on Friday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN reports.

While he had a great college career at both Oklahoma and Texas A&M, Knight was seen as a long shot to make the team's final roster. After he completed just two of 12 passes for 19 yards and an interception in Thursday's preseason finale against the Broncos, Knight's time was up in Arizona.

Lewis was released by the Ravens on Friday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

The veteran journeyman was signed for depth midway through the preseason, but with the final roster cuts set for this weekend, the Ravens opted to let Lewis go. Lewis went 8-for-13 for 55 yards against the Saints in Baltimore's preseason finale and finished the night with a 71.0 quarterback rating. His departure could mean that Baltimore will hang onto preseason star Josh Woodrum as the third quarterback.
