Trubisky is slated to draw the start at quarterback in Thursday's preseason finale against the Browns, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Per the report, Trubisky will be replaced by Connor Shaw, while Mark Sanchez and presumed Week 1 starter Mike Glennon are slated to be observers. Trubisky will thus gain from added game reps before settling into a reserve role that is obviously not permanent based on how aggressive the Bears were in moving up to draft him. There's of course a degree of injury risk here, but the Bears evidently feel that it is outweighed by affording their future franchise signal-caller an opportunity to prepare for an NFL contest as a starter.

Jones may be in line to start Thursday's preseason game against the 49ers, Dan Woike of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

With both Philip Rivers and Kellen Clemens expected to sit out Thursday's game against the 49ers, Jones will have an ample amount of snaps to impress coaches as he jockeys for a spot on the 53-man roster. Jones turned in his best performance of the preseason Saturday, throwing for 74 yards on nine completions while looking more comfortable in the pocket. With only one other quarterback, Mike Bercovici, available to play on the roster, Jones will surely play at least the first half and could extend even beyond that as the Chargers look to decide if they have their quarterback of the future in house.

Taylor is still in the concussion protocol and won't practice Tuesday, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.

Taylor suffered the concussion during Saturday's preseason game against Baltimore, exiting after two drives. The Bills have no reason to rush him ahead of their preseason finale, instead hoping to have him back next week in preparation for the regular-season opener against the Jets. Should Taylor's concussion symptoms linger, rookie Nathan Peterman will get the Week 1 start.

The Lions and Stafford reached agreement on a five-year contract extension Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Stafford's deal surpasses Derek Carr's five-year, $125 million extension from June, with an annual price tag of $27 million per year, per Kyle Meinke of MLive.com. In a sense, Stafford's contract is justified, as he ranks second all-time in passing yards per game (278). Moreover, he's coming off the second- and third-best quarterback ratings of his career, mostly under the tutelage of offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. Now that he's set financially, Stafford can focus on notching his first playoff win.

Shaw completed two of three passes for 22 yards in Sunday's 19-7 victory over the Titans.

Shaw came in to play during the last three minutes of the game after Mike Glennon and Mitch Trubisky were finished for the day. Although Mark Sanchez didn't play in the contest, Shaw is more likely to land on the practice squad than earn a spot on the regular-season roster, as Sanchez remains ahead of him on the depth chart.

Petty (knee) was restricted to individual work during Monday's practice, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.

Petty sprained his knee during a very successful third preseason appearance over the weekend, but he still hopes to be healthy enough to play in Thursday's exhibition finale. Whether that happens or not, veteran Josh McCown was named New York's starting quarterback Monday, leaving Petty to compete with Christian Hackenberg for No. 2 duties.

Hackenberg will compete for the No. 2 quarterback job with Bryce Petty (knee) after Josh McCown was named the opening-day starter Monday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

The Jets had what they called an open competition for the starting quarterback role during training camp, but McCown was always the favorite to win the position. With Hackenberg not playing nearly well enough during preseason games and in practice, McCown, who wasn't overly impressive in his own right, will get the Week 1 start. McCown, 38, doesn't have a ton of upside, and given his injury history it's not out of the question that Hackenberg could take over at some point.

Mariota completed 12 of 21 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's preseason game against the Bears. He also rushed twice for 12 yards.

Mariota played the entirety of three quarters Sunday before his final snap resulted in a three-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Henry on the first play of the fourth quarter. Although the Titans managed just seven points with Mariota at the helm, he completed five passes of over 20 yards, including a 48-yard play to rookie Taywan Taylor. On the back of that showing, Mariota should feel good heading into the final week of the preseason, when it wouldn't be surprising if he's held out versus the Chiefs.

Wenning signed a contract with the Bills on Monday, Chris Brown of the team's official site reports.

The Bills are in desperate need of help at QB with both Tyrod Taylor and T.J. Yates under concussion protocol. Wenning, a 2014 sixth-round pick by the Ravens, will help fill the void.

Stafford was handed a day off at Monday's practice, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

Stafford was seen throwing the ball with his fellow quarterbacks as well as team trainers while donning street clothes Monday. His absence from practice was simply for rest purposes, yet represented his first missed session in nearly five years.
