  • Trevor Siemian QB | ATL

Broncos' Trevor Siemian: Wins Friday's practice

Siemian was the better of Denver's two primary quarterbacks on Friday, Cecil Lammey of 104.3 The Fan reports.

The book on Siemian is that he's the savvier, but more physically limited of Denver's competing quarterbacks. There is probably some truth in that, though such assessments also lazily underestimate Siemian's escape ability and arm talent while giving him a pass on some of his poorer decision making. All that being said, Siemian has seemed to take a dink-and-dunk approach to training camp, as opposed to Lynch's boom-or-bust tendencies. One isn't inherently worse than the other, but if you're rookie head coach Vance Joseph and have what projects to be a top-five defense, the safer route maybe more attractive.

  • Paxton Lynch QB | PIT

Broncos' Paxton Lynch: Shaky in practice

Lynch's timing was off during Friday's practice, Cecil Lammey of 104.3 The Fan reports.

Lammey attributed Lynch's inaccuracy during practice to poor timing and not trusting his eyes. The physical gifts are there for Lynch, and to his credit, he avoided turning the ball over much during his limited exposure in games last year. Where he really struggled in his two starts was in processing things quickly and avoiding sacks. That's something Lynch appears to be struggling with again now. With Trevor Siemian reportedly getting back into a groove, Lynch might be on the outside looking in at Denver's quarterback race if he doesn't correct his timing issues.

  • Joshua Dobbs QB | DET

Steelers' Joshua Dobbs: Takes reps with first-team offense

Dobbs got to work with the first-team offense in practice Thursday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ray Fittipaldo reports.

Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) was unable to finish practice, and Landry Jones (abdomen) continues to be out, creating an opportunity for Dobbs to show the coaching staff what he can do. The fourth-round draft pick is competing with Jones to back up Roethlisberger this season, but he could be the quarterback of the future with Big Ben continuing to talk about his possible retirement after this campaign.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Considering options for knee injury

Tannehill and the Dolphins are still evaluating their options to treat his injured left knee, Dave Hyde of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. Speaking on Tannehill's situation, coach Adam Gase said, "Everything's on the table right now. We're going to talk to a lot of people. There's no timetable. Right now, Matt (Moore) is our quarterback. We'll see where we go from there."

Tannehill, whose 2016 campaign was cut short by a partially torn left ACL, had the same knee buckle in Thursday's practice. Although Tannehill has since undergone an MRI, the exact nature of his injury remains unclear, but news surrounding his treatment options has surfaced. The quarterback could either opt to rest for 6-to-8 weeks before attempting a return during the regular season, or he could have season-ending surgery. It's worth noting that the 29-year-old decided not to undergo surgery following last season's injury, instead preferring stem-cell treatment. With Tannehill slated to miss significant time either way, Matt Moore is preparing to serve as Miami's starting quarterback heading into Week 1.

  • Connor Shaw QB | CHI

Bears' Connor Shaw: Misses practice Friday

Shaw missed practice Friday due to minor surgery to remove a screw from the procedure he had done on his ankle, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Shaw is currently the fourth-string quarterback, and with it being unlikely that the Bears keep more than three signal-callers on the roster, he's unlikely to make the final roster unless someone ahead of him suffers an injury.

  • Marcus Mariota QB | WAS

Titans' Marcus Mariota: Not hesitant to run

Mariota feels some stiffness in his leg before and after practices, but he hasn't shown any hesitation to leave the pocket or throw on the run, The Tennessean's Colton Pouncey reports.

Mariota's ability to practice without hesitation backs up last week's assertion that he trusts his surgically repaired leg, and he said he feels a little bit more comfortable with each passing day. He does need more time to warm up before practice and has been getting help from the training staff to stay loose, but that's to be expected for a key player coming off major surgery. The injury won't necessarily impact his approach in games, as the Titans have never been too keen on fully taking advantage of Mariota's running skills anyway. With DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry running the ball and the pass-catching corps suddenly boasting impressive depth, the Titans have plenty of ways to put up points without exposing their young quarterback to big hits too often.

  • Cardinals' Blaine Gabbert: Stars in Hall of Fame Game

Gabbert completed 11 of 14 passes for 185 yards in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against Dallas.

Gabbert started and played the entire first half, leading Arizona to touchdowns on its first two drives for an early 15-0 advantage. A strong preseason might convince the Cardinals to push him ahead of Drew Stanton, who's served as Carson Palmer's top backup for the past four years.

  • Jameis Winston QB | NYG

Buccaneers' Jameis Winston: Excels at ball placement Thursday

Winston was sharp throughout Thursday's practice and threw two particularly impressive deep balls, Joe Kania of the team's official site reports.

The third-year signal caller looked sharp throughout Thursday's session, especially during one-on-one drills. Winston flung a pair of perfect bombs within those periods, hitting DeSean Jackson down the right sideline for a touchdown on one and then placing another perfectly to Mike Evans on the very next play. As per Jenna Laine of ESPN.com, Winston has impressed head coach Dirk Koetter with his adaptability and calm under pressure, as well as with the plays he's been able to make against what looks like an improved and more aggressive Bucs defensive unit.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: May require season-ending knee surgery

Tannehill may require season-ending surgery on his injured left knee, though no official decision has been made, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Tannehill's 2016 season was cut short by a knee injury and it appears that his upcoming campaign may unfortunately be in jeopardy as well. The veteran quarterback will undergo further evaluations in the coming days, but at the moment it appears his options include season-ending surgery or resting for 6-to-8 weeks with hopes of returning to full health during the regular season. The Dolphins haven't made any official decisions with regard to Tannehill's injury, with Matt Moore set to handle the team's QB duties for the time being as this situation plays out.

  • Dak Prescott QB | DAL

Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Not expected to play Thursday

Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram suggests that Prescott is among the key Dallas players not expected to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Cardinals.

No real surprise here, as this is the time of year where key NFL starters such as Prescott often receive little-to-no playing time in early preseason contests. Added reps for second-string QB Kellen Moore are thus on tap Thursday.
