Packers' Jordan Love: Won't practice without extension

Love's representatives have informed the Packers that he won't practice until he has a contract extension, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst revealed the information Monday and said he's optimistic an extension will get done soon. In the meantime, Love is present for training camp and taking part in meetings, which suggests his absence from practice is a matter of caution more so than reflecting any frustration with ongoing negotiations. It sounds like the Packers expect to complete a deal and get Love back on the practice field soon.

  • Lamar Jackson QB | BAL

Ravens' Lamar Jackson: Sent home from camp due to illness

Jackson won't practice Sunday and was sent home from training camp due to an illness.

Sunday is the first day of Baltimore's training camp, and the team's star quarterback won't participate due to an illness. The severity of the issue isn't clear, but it seems unlikely that Jackson's status for Week 1 is in jeopardy.

  • Jordan Travis QB | NYJ

Jets' Jordan Travis: Put on active/NFI list

Travis (ankle) was placed on the active/non-football injury list by the Jets on Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Travis can return to practice at any point since he was put on the list before training camp started. Once the rookie fifth-round selection returns to the field, he's slated to work behind veteran quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor.

  • Deshaun Watson QB | CLE

Browns' Deshaun Watson: Throwing daily without setbacks

Watson (shoulder) said Wednesday he's been throwing daily, including with teammate Amari Cooper, as part of his rehab process, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Watson declined to say whether he's been fully cleared for training camp, but it's encouraging to hear that he's been able to move through his rehab program without setbacks. He missed all but six games in 2023 and underwent surgery last November to repair a displaced glenoid fracture in his right shoulder. The outlook of Cleveland's passing attack for 2024 depends not only on Watson's health, but also the presence of Cooper, who is negotiating a new contract. Cooper skipped mandatory minicamp in June, and at this point, his full attendance at camp isn't a total guarantee, so it's a positive that he and Watson are already working on developing more of a rapport.

  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

Giants' Daniel Jones: Will be active for training camp

Jones (knee) won't be placed on the PUP list and will be active from the start of training camp next week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Jones said early Tuesday during an appearance on the Simms Complete podcast that he's had no setbacks in his recovery from last November's ACL surgery, and the Giants' decision not to place him on the PUP list essentially confirms that. This news means the QB is unlikely to have any limitations in preparing for the upcoming campaign and should be ready to go as New York's Week 1 starter. Jones will lead a new-look Giants offense that lost Saquon Barkley in free agency and Darren Waller to retirement in the offseason while adding new first-string RB Devin Singletary and exciting rookie Malik Nabers, who is slated to be the team's No. 1 wideout.

  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

Giants' Daniel Jones: No real setbacks in recovery

Jones (knee) said Tuesday during an appearance on the "Simms Complete" podcast that he has had a "pretty smooth process" and "no real setbacks" in his recovery from the ACL surgery he underwent in November, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports. "At this point, I'm doing pretty much everything -- running, cutting, everything I need to do," Jones said.

The quarterback didn't explicitly say that he's been medically cleared for the start of training camp next week, but he previously said in June that he expects to be on the field. Once he's cleared for 11-on-11 contact drills, a healthy Jones will look to prove that he's the Giants' long-term answer at quarterback. The team eschewed using the No. 6 overall pick in April's draft on a signal-caller and instead selected wideout Malik Nabers, and the front office appears to be betting that the addition of a dynamic receiver and better health from the offensive line will be enough to prop up the offense. Jones is entering the second season of the four-year, $160 million contract he signed in March 2023, and if the Giants elect to go in a different direction at quarterback following the 2024 campaign, the team would incur only $22.2 million in dead money by cutting him.

  • Dak Prescott QB | DAL

Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Out of walking boot

Prescott (foot), who has been spotted without a protective boot on his right foot, said Tuesday that there's "absolutely nothing" wrong with his ankle, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

Prescott clarified that the walking boot he was spotted wearing in early July was only worn as a precautionary measure after soreness developed in his right ankle, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.com, despite initial reports that the quarterback was nursing a minor sprain. He underwent surgery on that ankle back in 2020 due to a compound fracture and dislocation, so it isn't surprising to see him treating soreness in the ankle with extra caution. At this point, Prescott is showing no signs of discomfort and looks on track to be a full participant for the start of training camp. Prescott also said that his agent and the Cowboys have had conversations about a contract extension, adding that he has plans in place to work out with potential holdout candidate CeeDee Lamb before the start of camp, per Machota.

Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Managing foot sprain

Prescott was spotted Thursday wearing a protective boot on his right foot due to a sprain, but the injury isn't considered serious, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The Cowboys wrapped up the final practice of mandatory minicamp on June 5, which was roughly one month ago, and Prescott has reportedly been wearing his protective boot for about only a week, so it remains unclear how he suffered the injury. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirms that the injury is considered minor, so it doesn't seem like the franchise quarterback's foot sprain is at much risk of impacting his availability for the start of training camp on July 25. Now heading into his age-32 season, Dallas and Prescott have yet to come to terms on a new contract extension, and he remains scheduled for a $55.46 million cap hit in 2024. Meanwhile, star wideout CeeDee Lamb could be a candidate to hold out from training camp if he doesn't receive a new contract of his own.

  • Colts' Anthony Richardson: Will be ready for training camp

Colts general manager Chris Ballard said Monday in an appearance on "The GM Shuffle with Michael Lombardi and Femi Abebefet" podcast that Richardson (shoulder) will "be full go" for training camp.

Richardson had rest days mixed into his on-field work during OTAs and mandatory minicamp as a result of shoulder soreness, but those bouts of fatigue don't seem to have represented an actual setback. Instead, the Colts are simply trying to take a cautious approach with Richardson as he recovers from October surgery on his right throwing shoulder. By the time training camp kicks off in late July, Richardson should be at full strength, but if he's still having to take days off at that time, it could represent more cause for concern. At full health, Richardson's combination of arm strength, size, and speed provide him with a tremendous fantasy ceiling, especially with rookie second-rounder Adonai Mitchell joining Michael Pittman, Josh Downs and Alec Pierce.

  • Russell Wilson QB | NYG

Steelers' Russell Wilson: Remains in lead for starter gig

Wilson remains the clear favorite to start Week 1 under center for Pittsburgh and has made a good impression on his new coaching staff throughout OTAs and June minicamp, Chris Ward of SteelersNow.com reports.

Wilson has impressed with arm talent and leadership throughout spring activities, per Mark Kaboldy of The Athletic, and he's reportedly dominated first-team reps to this point. Justin Fields could push for more opportunities during training camp, but for the time being, there's been nothing to suggest any shift from coach Mike Tomlin's remark early in the offseason that Wilson is in the "pole position" to start Week 1 under center. Experience and consistency alone could make enough difference for Wilson, a 35-year-old veteran, to win the starting gig over Fields, but he'll face pressure to keep Pittsburgh in the playoff race, given that he's playing on only a one-year contract.
