  • Jalen Hurts QB | PHI

Eagles' Jalen Hurts: Not expected to play Sunday

With the Eagles in line to rest key starters, Hurts isn't expected to play in Sunday's preseason game against the Browns, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

In that context, Gardner Minshew, Reid Sinnett and Carson Strong are the team's available QBs on Sunday, while Hurts' final opportunity to see preseason action arrives Saturday against the Dolphins.

  • P.J. Walker QB | SEA

Panthers' P.J. Walker: Throws two picks

Walker completed 8 of 15 passes for 107 yards and two interceptions in Friday's 20-10 preseason loss to the Patriots. He also was sacked four times and lost a fumble that was recovered for a touchdown.

Walker started and alternated quarters with rookie third-rounder Matt Corral. However, with Corral suffering a foot injury during the fourth quarter, Walker was called back in late to finish the game. Although he struggled while committing three turnovers Friday, Walker's chances of making Carolina's roster increased after it was subsequently revealed that Corral could now miss the entire 2022 campaign. With Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold currently competing for the Panthers' starting job, Walker could be kept as the third option, or potentially rise to become the second-stringer in the event Darnold is traded.

  • Brett Rypien QB | MIN

Broncos' Brett Rypien: Shines in loss

Rypien completed 22 of 26 passes for 191 yards and one touchdown while adding nine yards on three carries in Saturday's 42-15 loss to the Bills.

Rypien entered the contest in the second half when the Broncos were already trailing the Bills 35-6, but the fourth-year signal caller made the most of his opportunity. The 26-year-old finds himself in a battle for the No. 2 quarterback spot with veteran Josh Johnson, the latter of whom signed with Denver this offseason. Based on the Broncos' first preseason game against the Cowboys, it seemed Johnson was beginning to separate himself in the competition, but Rypien's impressive performance against Buffalo will likely turn the heat up on the battle for the backup spot. If he has another solid performance in Denver's third preseason game against Minnesota on Aug. 27, Rypien could make a push for the No. 2 role as the coaching staff makes its final roster decisions ahead of the 2022 campaign.

  • Will Grier QB | CAR

Cowboys' Will Grier: Solid work Saturday night

Grier completed six of 10 passes for 98 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed once for nine yards in the Cowboys' 32-18 preseason win over the Chargers on Saturday night.

The 2019 third-round pick of the Panthers made his preseason debut after overcoming a groin strain, and Grier turned in a solid effort overall. The 27-year-old is battling Cooper Rush for the No. 2 quarterback job, and he's therefore likely to get another solid allotment of playing time in Friday's exhibition finale against the Seahawks.

  • Cooper Rush QB | BAL

Cowboys' Cooper Rush: Plays pair of possessions Saturday

Rush completed three of six pass attempts for 32 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Cowboys' 32-18 preseason win over the Chargers on Saturday night.

Rush started his second straight exhibition, but he saw less work than during the preseason-opening loss to the Broncos a week earlier when he went 12-for-20 passing for 84 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. The Central Michigan product played the first two offensive series before calling it a night, and he heads into the exhibition finale against the Seahawks on Friday trying to fend off Will Grier for the No. 2 job.

  • Kellen Mond QB | NO

Vikings' Kellen Mond: Struggles in second preseason game

Mond started Saturday's preseason loss to the 49ers and was 10-for-20 passing for 82 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Round 2 of the backup quarterback battle went to Sean Mannion after Mond outplayed him in the first preseason game. Mannion was 10-for-15 passing for 65 yards in the second half, so he wasn't too much better. The battle for the backup role will likely be decided late in training camp.

  • Sam Ehlinger QB | DEN

Colts' Sam Ehlinger: Another strong preseason showing

Ehlinger was 9-for-11 passing for 136 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's preseason loss to Detroit.

Ehlinger had a second consecutive strong preseason game. With the Colts signing Nick Foles as Matt Ryan's backup, it's not clear if the team will have a third quarterback on the active roster in the regular season, however.

  • Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Looks good against Steelers

Lawrence completed 14 of 21 passes for 133 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Steelers. He also gained 13 yards on the ground.

Lawrence played the entire first half and effectively led the Jaguars to a pair of field goals. He showed particular rapport with Marvin Jones, connecting with the veteran receiver for gains of 16, 14 and 10 yards. While preseason statistics can be misleading, Lawrence appears far more comfortable in his second season as a pro.

  • Mitch Trubisky QB | TEN

Steelers' Mitch Trubisky: Sidetracked by pressure

Trubisky completed five of eight passes for 60 yards in Saturday's preseason win over the Jaguars. He also rushed for 10 yards.

Trubisky wasn't as efficient as he was in his debut with the Steelers, but he wasn't afforded much time to throw. He escaped from pressure on several occasions, including one instance during which he scrambled for a 10-yard gain. While the performance wasn't impressive overall, Trubisky did connect with Chase Claypool for a 29-yard gain. Though Kenny Pickett posted a more impressive stat line, Trubisky is still the likely starter for Week 1 against the Bengals.

  • Kenny Pickett QB | CAR

Steelers' Kenny Pickett: Makes case for starting job

Pickett completed six of seven passes for 76 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason win over the Jaguars.

Pickett entered the game after Mitch Trubisky but was the more effective of the duo. The rookie first-round pick connected with each of the Steelers' starting receivers as well as tight end Pat Freiermuth for gains of 24, 17, 16 and 11 yards. Pickett also led an effective two-minute drill that ended in a touchdown pass to Benny Snell with 29 seconds left in the first half. Trubisky is still likely to be the starter Week 1 against the Bengals, but Pickett made a strong case for the job with his performance Saturday.
