JuJu Smith-Schuster WR | NYG
Chiefs' JuJu Smith-Schuster: Could return to practice next week
Coach Andy Reid noted Thursday that there's a good chance Smith-Schuster (knee) will return to practice next week, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
With that in mind, Smith-Schuster isn't in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Commanders, but Reid's comment suggests that the wide receiver's knee issue isn't viewed as a major concern. When healthy, Smith-Schuster is slated to be a key target for QB Patrick Mahomes in a Kansas City offense that has plenty of targets up for grabs following the offseason departure of Tyreek Hill.

Mecole Hardman WR | BUF
Chiefs' Mecole Hardman: Not ruled out for Saturday
Hardman (groin), who left Wednesday's session early, didn't practice Thursday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports,
On the plus side, per Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com, coach Andy Reid relayed that Hardman is making progress and hasn't been ruled out for Saturday's preseason contest against Washington. While it's possible that the wideout is held out for precautionary reasons, it does appear that Hardman's injury isn't a long-term concern.

Mecole Hardman WR | BUF
Chiefs' Mecole Hardman: Likely avoids serious injury
Hardman's groin injury isn't considered serious, Independent NFL reporter Dov Kleiman reports.
The timing in mid-August could still put his Week 1 availability in question, but it at least seems Hardman is expected to avoid a long-term absence. He's been competing for WR snaps and targets in a group that also includes JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee), Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore. In the preseason opener, Hardman worked as the No. 3 receiver, coming in behind Smith-Schuster and Valdes-Scantling for three-wide sets. Moore worked with the backups but could see more reps with the starters while Hardman is on the shelf.

Ty Fryfogle WR | KC
Cowboys' Ty Fryfogle: Back to Dallas
Fryfogle (undisclosed) reverted to Dallas' injured reserve Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Fryfogle was waived/injured Monday and went unclaimed on waivers. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cowboys after the 2022 NFL Draft but will have to wait until at least 2023 to make his professional debut.

Danny Gray WR | PHI
49ers' Danny Gray: Full practice Wednesday
Gray (hip/back) returned to full practice participation during Wednesday's joint session with the Vikings, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
In the wake of last Friday's preseason win over the Packers, head coach Kyle Shanahan told Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area that Gray was dealing with hip and back soreness, which was expected to sideline the wideout for a few days. Gray proceeded to miss the 49ers' ensuing two practices before the team made the trip to Minnesota. During 7-on-7 drills Wednesday, the rookie third-round pick connected with Trey Lance on a deep ball down the right sideline, reminiscent of his 76-yard score down the left sideline in the exhibition opener. Assuming he's back to 100 percent, Gray should get some run during Saturday's matchup with the Vikings.

Marquise Brown WR | PHI
Cardinals' Marquise Brown: Back to 100 percent
Brown isn't slated to play in Sunday's preseason game against the Ravens, but he said Wednesday that his hamstring currently is 100 percent, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Brown landed in Arizona on Day 1 of the draft back in April via a trade with the Ravens, but his training camp so far has included a stint on the non-football injury list and a slow ramp up since returning to practice Aug. 2. He didn't partake in his first on-field work with quarterback and college teammate Kyler Murray (wrist) until Monday, at which point the Cardinals were seen operating in 10 personnel, with Brown and Rondale Moore as slot receivers and DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green manning the outside, per Urban. Whether or not Arizona's offense actually utilizes the Air Raid this season remains to be seen, but Brown should benefit early on with his new squad while Hopkins serves a suspension for the first six games of the campaign.

Kristian Wilkerson WR | ATL
Patriots' Kristian Wilkerson: Suffers head injury Wednesday
Wilkerson sustained a head injury during Wednesday's joint practice with the Panthers and may miss some time, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.
While serving as a kick returner, Wilkerson was laid out by Carolina safety Kenny Robinson and remained down for a number of minutes before he was carted off the field, according to Zack Cox of NESN.com. Kyed didn't elaborate on the nature of Wilkerson's head injury, but the third-year wide receiver apparently feels "OK." The Patriots' next preseason game arrives this Friday versus the Panthers, so Wilkerson may only have one more chance to make inroads on a roster spot Aug. 26 at Las Vegas.

Kristian Wilkerson WR | ATL
Patriots' Kristian Wilkerson: Carted off field Wednesday
Wilkerson was carted off the field during Wednesday's practice after absorbing a hit on a kickoff, Zack Cox of NESN.com reports.
Wilkerson, who was down on the field for several minutes before being carted to the locker room, was transported away for off-site medical evaluation. The wideout made a splash in the Patriots' preseason opener last Thursday with eight receptions for 99 yards on 12 targets, putting him in a good early position to be included on the season-opening roster. He's been competing for a depth role in a receiver corps headed by DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers and Nelson Agholor.

Velus Jones Jr. RB | SEA
Bears' Velus Jones: Expected to make pro debut Thursday
Jones (undisclosed) should see more than the anticipated 6-to-10 plays that the Chicago starters are expected to receive in Thursday's preseason game against the Seahawks, Alyssa Barbieri of USA Today reports.
Jones missed Chicago's preseason opener last week with an undisclosed injury, but he'll be ready to go for the second exhibition contest. During recent practices, he's shown speed and playmaking ability. He'll get a chance to flash those skills against Seattle as he looks to earn a Week 1 role as one of the Bears' top three receivers.

CeeDee Lamb WR | DAL
Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb: Battling minor foot issue
Lamb sat out Wednesday's practice with a foot laceration that isn't considered serious, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Lamb was an observer at Wednesday's practice and is expected to sit out Thursday's session, too, meaning that he's unlikely to suit up in Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers. The foot issue isn't anything that should keep him off the field for long, and he'll enter Week 1 as Dallas' unquestioned No. 1 receiver with Amari Cooper now in Cleveland and with Michael Gallup (knee) working his way back from an ACL tear.
