  • Marquise Brown WR | PHI

Chiefs' Hollywood Brown: Sitting out preseason opener

Brown (ankle) isn't playing in Saturday's preseason contest against the Cardinals, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.

Brown's absence from the game was expected, as he's dealing with an ankle injury that has kept him out of practice since July 29. Rashee Rice is also being held out of action Saturday as he deals with a minor groin injury. It's not yet clear if either wideout will play in next Friday's preseason clash against Seattle.

  • Rashee Rice WR | KC

Chiefs' Rashee Rice: Not playing in preseason opener

Rice (groin) isn't suiting up for Saturday's preseason matchup versus Arizona, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.

Rice was been dealing with a groin injury, though the issue has been described as minor by head coach Andy Reid. It's not surprising, however, that the star wideout won't play Saturday, as there's no reason for Kansas City to risk aggravating the issue in the first game of the preseason. Hollywood Brown (ankle) also isn't suiting up Saturday, so Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Travis Kelce should be the top pass-catching options for Patrick Mahomes, who's slated to see some action in the game.

  • Packers' Dontayvion Wicks: Missing Saturday's preseason opener

Wicks (calf) isn't playing against the Jets in Green Bay's first preseason contest Saturday.

Wicks has been nursing a calf issue since late July and has been in and out of practice. As such, it's not surprising that he won't play Saturday, though there hasn't been any suggestion that the wideout's injury is a serious concern. Top wide receiver Jayden Reed (foot) is also sitting out Saturday's matchup, leaving rookie Matthew Golden and veteran Romeo Doubs as the top pass-catching options for Jordan Love, who is slated to see some action.

  • Jayden Reed WR | GB

Packers' Jayden Reed: Not playing in first preseason game

Reed (foot) is not suiting up for Saturday's preseason contest against the Jets.

Reed's absence isn't a surprise since he's been dealing with a toe injury and a separate foot issue during training camp. There isn't reason to believe at this point that Reed will have any trouble being ready for Week 1 of the regular season, and he could suit up before the preseason comes to an end. Fellow wideout Dontayvion Wicks (calf) also isn't playing Saturday, leaving rookie Matthew Golden and veteran Romeo Doubs as the top pass-catching options for Jordan Love, who is slated to see some action.

  • Rondale Moore WR | MIN

Vikings' Rondale Moore: Slated for MRI

Moore has a "pretty significant" left knee injury, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell, and will have an MRI on Sunday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Moore was hurt on a punt return during the second quarter of Saturday's preseason contest against Houston. The veteran wideout was competing for a role as the Vikings' primary punt returner as well as for a depth wideout spot, but an extended absence could obviously impact those aspirations. Moore's MRI should provide more clarity about the specifics of his injury and a timeline for his potential return.

  • CeeDee Lamb WR | DAL

Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb: Not in line to play Saturday

Lamb is among the key Dallas players not slated to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Per Archer, the same applies to QB Dak Prescott, RB Javonte Williams, WRs George Pickens and KaVontae Turpin, as well as TE Jake Ferguson. Lamb's next chance to see game action will arrive Aug. 16 against the Ravens.

  • Cowboys' KaVontae Turpin: Not playing Saturday

Turpin is among Cowboys players not suiting up for Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Turpin, as Dallas' top kick returner, joins the majority of the team's starters in sitting out Saturday. The 29-year-old has also historically contributed as a depth wideout, and he's seen opportunities taking snaps out of the backfield this offseason. With Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders (knee), Jaydon Blue (heel) and Deuce Vaughn currently competing for reps in an unsolidified backfield, Turpin's speed gives him a genuine chance to work into what may shape up to be a committee approach.

  • Jayden Reed WR | GB

Packers' Jayden Reed: Likely sitting out vs. Jets

Reed (foot) is not expected to suit up for Saturday's preseason opener against the Jets, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports.

Reed has been on and off the practice field throughout the early stages of training camp, first with a toe injury and now due to a foot issue. Green Bay is expected to rest the third-year starter, meaning Reed's next opportunity to suit up for preseason action will come Aug. 16 on the road at Indianapolis. Dontayvion Wicks (calf) is also expected to sit out versus New York.

  • Josh Palmer WR | BUF

Bills' Joshua Palmer: Two grabs in preseason opener

Palmer caught two of three targets for 21 yards in Saturday's 34-25 preseason loss to the Giants.

All three targets came with Mitchell Trubisky under center, as Josh Allen sat out Buffalo's first exhibition contest. Palmer has been getting some buzz in training camp as a receiver who can provide Allen with a deep threat to complement Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid underneath, but the former Charger may not get much of a chance to show chemistry with his new starting QB in the preseason. Palmer's best campaign while catching passes from Justin Herbert came in 2022, when he turned 107 targets into 72 catches for 769 yards and three TDs over 16 regular-season games.

  • Giants' Wan'Dale Robinson: Makes brief appearance Saturday

Robinson caught his only target for 11 yards in Saturday's 34-25 preseason win over the Bills.

Malik Nabers (shoulder) and Darius Slayton (undisclosed) were unavailable Saturday and Jalin Hyatt was also held out, leaving Robinson as the only established Giants wide receiver in the starting lineup for the team's exhibition opener. He was also the only wideout to catch a pass from Russell Wilson, as both of them checked out of the game after one drive. Robinson appears secure in his slot role, but after seeing a career-high 140 targets in 2024 and turning them into just 699 yards and three TDs on 93 catches, his volume is highly likely to regress, especially if rookie QB Jaxson Dart looks to push the ball downfield more often should he take over the reins of the offense.
