Payton (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Commanders.

The fifth-round rookie is the No. 4 quarterback on the roster. Jalen Hurts, Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee (coach's decision) as the emergency quarterback all take precedence over the young player out of North Dakota State. It is unclear if Payton will have a role with the team in 2026 or if he will be consistently inactive.

McCarthy (coach's decision) is inactive but will serve as the Vikings' emergency third quarterback against the Packers on Sunday, Craig Peters of the Vikings' official site reports.

McCarthy lost out to Kyler Murray for the starting job in training camp, and head coach Kevin O'Connell opted to go with Carson Wentz as the backup in Week 1. As the emergency third quarterback, McCarthy is not allowed to play Sunday unless both Murray and Wentz are removed from the game due to injury, illness or ejection.

McKee (coach's decision) is inactive as the emergency third quarterback for Sunday's game against the Commanders.

McKee will be the emergency option behind Jalen Hurts and Andy Dalton. The quarterback will only enter the game if both active players are unable to play.

Tuipulotu (hip) is active for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.

Tuipulotu was limited in practice all week due to a hip injury, but the fourth-year pro has been cleared to play in Sunday's regular-season opener and will be the Chargers' second starting edge rusher opposite veteran Khalil Mack. Tuipulotu posted a career-high 13.0 sacks across 16 regular-season games in 2025.

Green (elbow) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Browns.

Green injured his elbow while on punt coverage in the first quarter, and the injury is severe enough that he won't return to Sunday's contest. Danny Striggow will be the primary rotational option at defensive end behind Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker in Green's absence.

Beck (coach's decision) is inactive as the emergency third quarterback for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Beck will be the emergency third option behind Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew. Beck will only enter the game if both active quarterbacks cannot continue to play. The rookie out of Miami will likely fill this role for the first few weeks of the season.

Brownlee (calf) has been cleared to return to Sunday's game against the Titans, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

Brownlee was carted from the sideline to the locker room after sustaining a calf injury. However, the third-year pro has cleared tests and been given the green light to return against the team that drafted him in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Kaliakmanis (coach's decision) is inactive but will serve as the Commanders' emergency third quarterback against the Eagles on Sunday.

As the emergency third quarterback, Kaliakmanis is prohibited from playing in Sunday's game unless both Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota were to leave the contest due to injury, illness or ejection. Kaliakmanis was a seventh-round selection of the Commanders in the 2026 NFL Draft after spending the last two years of his college career at Rutgers.

Burks (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Burks appeared in eight of the Commanders' final nine games of the 2025 regular season after being released by the Titans in October. However, the 2022 first-rounder will join Luke McCaffrey (coach's decision) in street clothes Sunday, with the Commanders opting for five active wide receivers for game day. Burks' next chance to play is Week 2 against the Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Joly (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders.

Joly will sit behind Greg Dulcich, Will Kacmarek and Seydou Traore. The No. 4 option at tight end will likely find himself the odd man out frequently throughout the season as he acclimates to the NFL in his first year.
