  • Rashid Shaheed WR | SEA

Seahawks' Rashid Shaheed: One catch in season opener

Shaheed caught one of three targets for four yards while adding three kickoff returns for 80 yards and a nine-yard punt return in Wednesday's 13-10 win over the Patriots.

After some offseason whispers about a larger role on offense for Shaheed, that didn't materialize in the season opener, as he wasn't among the five players who recorded multiple catches for the Seahawks. The standout return man maintained his prominent role on special teams, and he was on the field for 33 of Seattle's 50 snaps on offense. Shaheed is likely to have Drew Lock as his quarterback Week 2 against the Cardinals, as starting signal-caller Sam Darnold (hip) is likely to miss that game after exiting in the first quarter Wednesday.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Seahawks' Sam Darnold: Receives good news on hip injury

Darnold (hip) received "really, really good news" regarding his injury, according to coach Mike McDonald, ESPN.com reports. "His hip is intact, and it's good," McDonald said Thursday.

Darnold underwent testing for his hip injury suffered in the season opener, including an initial CT scan followed by an MRI. The results are encouraging, as Darnold is believed to have "dodged a bullet" and is only expected to miss minimal time. An appearance for Darnold in Week 2 does not look likely at this stage, but the Week 3 game against the Commanders on Sunday, Sept. 27 is an optimistic but possible return date. Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, Darnold is primarily dealing with hip soreness.

  • AJ Barner TE | SEA

Seahawks' AJ Barner: Two catches in Week 1 win

Barner caught both of his targets for 13 yards in Wednesday's 13-10 win over the Patriots.

Barner was on the field for 44 of Seattle's 50 snaps on offense, so he remains firmly entrenched atop the tight end depth chart. He also had a short rushing gain from under center erased by an offensive offside penalty. Barner tied for second on the team in catches, as the Seahawks didn't get much production in the passing game from anyone other than Jaxson Smith-Njigba (eight catches for 122 yards and a touchdown) in a game that saw starting QB Sam Darnold (hip) exit in the first quarter. Darnold is expected to sit out Week 2 against the Cardinals, in which case Drew Lock would draw the start under center.

  • Tua Tagovailoa QB | ATL

Falcons' Tua Tagovailoa: Experiences possible back discomfort

Tagovailoa touched his back and sat down briefly during individual drills Thursday, then wasn't seen throwing again during the portion of practice open to media, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.

Raimondi cautions that only a small portion of practice is open to the media, but it's also possible that Tagovailoa was shut down for the remainder of practice after potentially hurting his back. The 28-year-old quarterback was named the starter for Sunday's season opener earlier in the week, as Michael Penix (knee) determined that he isn't ready for game action yet. Tagovailoa's official practice participation will be worth monitoring Thursday and Friday. Cooper Rush and Jack Strand are Atlanta's alternatives under center.

  • Eagles' Dontayvion Wicks: Listed as starting WR on depth chart

Wicks is listed as a starter on the Eagles' unofficial depth chart.

Philadelphia lists three starting wide receivers, with those spots going to Wicks, DeVonta Smith and rookie first-round pick Makai Lemon. Wicks had 581 receiving yards as a rookie with the Packers during the 2023 regular season and has failed to reach that mark since, posting only 415 receiving yards in the 2024 regular season and 332 yards in 2025. The 25-year-old wide receiver has an opportunity to play a larger role with his new team, which will kick off regular-season action Sunday against the Commanders.

  • Braelon Allen RB | NYJ

Jets' Braelon Allen: Slots into backup spot

Allen is listed second on the Jets' unofficial depth chart behind Breece Hall.

Allen worked with the starters for most of the preseason while Hall was sidelined by a groin injury. Hall practiced without limitations Wednesday, as did Isaiah Davis (knee), who is listed third on the team's unofficial depth chart. Allen is listed at 235 pounds and has reportedly bulked up to around 250. The 2024 fourth-round pick's large frame could help Allen command valuable goal-line and short-yardage work even while Hall is healthy.

  • Ted Hurst WR | TB

Buccaneers' Ted Hurst: Talked up by OC

Offensive coordinator Zac Robinson said Thursday that Hurst has continued to ascend week after week while adjusting well to the NFL, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Hurst is likely to begin his career in a depth role, though the rookie third-round pick out of Georgia State could see some involvement on offense out of the gate, especially if Jalen McMillan (knee) isn't cleared to face the Bengals in Week 1. McMillan practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, while Emeka Egbuka practiced fully after dealing with a recent toe injury. Egbuka and Chris Godwin figure to get most of the targets among Tampa Bay's wide receivers, though the 6-foot-3 Hurst showed the ability to stretch the field in college and may not need heavy volume to make an impact.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Seahawks' Sam Darnold: Expected to miss at least one game

Darnold (hip) is expected to miss Seattle's Week 2 game against the Cardinals, Ian Rapoport of ESPN and NFL Network reports.

Darnold avoided a major injury, but he's likely to miss at least one game as a result of the hip injury he sustained in the first quarter of Wednesday's 13-10 win over the Patriots. Assuming he's ruled out for Week 2, Darnold will have 18 days of recovery time between Wednesday's win and Seattle's Week 3 road game against the Commanders. Drew Lock, who threw for 187 yards and a touchdown after replacing Darnold on Wednesday, is expected to get the Week 2 start under center.

  • Breece Hall RB | NYJ

Jets' Breece Hall: Expected to avoid snap count

Hall (groin) could handle a full workload in Sunday's season opener against the Titans, as Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich said Thursday that "unless [head coach Aaron Glenn] and the training staff give us a rep count, we just go play ball," Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Hall initially received a recovery timetable of 2-to-3 weeks after sustaining a groin strain Aug. 17. Just over three weeks has passed since that date, and Hall practiced without limitations Wednesday, suggesting he has made a full recovery. Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, the latter of whom has been cleared to return from a knee injury sustained during training camp, could factor into the game plan as change-of-pace options, but Hall is expected to lead the Jets backfield and handle his normal workload against the Titans in Week 1.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Seahawks' Sam Darnold: Dodges bullet but could miss time

Darnold (hip) is expected to miss some time due to the hip injury he sustained in Wednesday's 13-10 win over the Patriots, but the Seahawks believe their starting quarterback has "dodged a bullet," Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Team doctors are still reviewing the results of the MRI that Darnold underwent on his injury Thursday morning, but the early results suggest Darnold isn't facing a long-term absence. Drew Lock looks likely to be tabbed as the starting quarterback for the team's Week 2 road game against the Cardinals on Sunday, Sept. 20. Lock threw for 187 yards and a touchdown following Darnold's first-quarter exit in Wednesday's season-opening win.
