Perreault announced his retirement from the NHL on Thursday, The Hockey News reports. Perreault is expected to transition into the world of broadcasting following his retirement from the NHL. The 34-year-old forward finishes his 13-year career having racked up 143 goals and 352 points through 708 NHL appearances.

Perreault is still with the Canadiens despite being waived Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Although he's still with the team, Perreault isn't expected to be in the lineup Saturday versus the Senators. The 34-year-old vet has picked up three goals and five points through 18 games this campaign.

Perreault cleared waivers Thursday. The Canadiens are currently undecided on whether or not they'll reassign the veteran to AHL Laval. If Perreault is traded or sent down to the Rocket, a corresponding update will follow. He has five points in 18 games with the big club this year and hasn't scored a goal since his hat trick Oct. 23 against Detroit.

Perreault was placed on waivers by the Habs on Wednesday. Perreault has struggled with injuries this season, in addition to being a periodic healthy scratch, so his impending demotion to the minors shouldn't come as a surprise. With Perreault likely headed to AHL Laval, it could be an indication Josh Anderson (lower body) will be ready to play versus Dallas on Thursday.

Perreault returned to the active lineup Saturday for the first time since Dec. 14. He did not have a fantasy-relevant statistic over 8:41 of ice time. Perreault, who missed 22 games with a lower-body injury, was activated from injured reserve to replace Paul Byron (upper body) and skated on the fourth line. Canadiens interim head coach Martin St. Louis also has Cedric Paquette around, but he's been a healthy scratch the last 10 games and hasn't played since Jan. 30.
