Campbell was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Sunday. Campbell was recalled under emergency conditions with Cam Talbot (lower body) unavailable, but the former didn't see any game action. With Alex Lyon (lower body) also expected back soon, the 32-year-old Campbell could be in for an extended stay in the minors.

Campbell was called up from AHL Grand Rapids under emergency conditions Friday. Campbell will get the call this time around, as the Red Wings will be without Cam Talbot (lower body) and Alex Lyon (lower body) on Saturday versus the Maple Leafs. Sebastian Cossa will stay in the AHL this time after previously getting called up to cover when injuries struck Detroit's crease earlier in December. Lyon could be back as soon as Wednesday versus the Flyers, so it's likely Campbell's stay in the NHL will be a short one.

Campbell (not injury related) was placed on waivers Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Campbell signed a one-year deal with Detroit before entering the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program. If he clears waivers, Campbell will likely report to AHL Grand Rapids as a depth option for the Red Wings. The 32-year-old netminder made five appearances with Edmonton last season, going 1-4-0 with an .873 save percentage.

Campbell will be away from the Red Wings indefinitely after entering the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports Friday. Campbell signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Red Wings over the summer. He joined a crowded Detroit goalie situation that also includes Ville Husso, Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon. Campbell had a 2.63 GAA and a .918 save percentage in 33 regular-season contests with AHL Bakersfield in 2023-24 after struggling with Edmonton during the early portion of the campaign, posting a 4.50 GAA and an .873 save percentage across five appearances from Oct. 11-Nov. 4. When Campbell is ready to play, he will likely spend time with AHL Grand Rapids.

Campbell signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Red Wings on Monday. Campbell is an interesting case. He struggled mightily early in the 2023-24 season, posting a 4.49 GAA and an .873 save percentage across five regular-season starts with Edmonton. The Oilers sent him to AHL Bakersfield, and although Campbell did well at that level with a 2.63 GAA and a .918 save percentage in 33 regular-season appearances, he never got another shot with Edmonton. Instead, the Oilers bought out the final three campaigns of his five-year, $25 million deal, which is how he became an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with Detroit. Campbell will enter training camp looking to revive his career, but he'll face stiff competition for a roster spot with Ville Husso, Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon also under contract. At least one of Detroit's goalies is likely to be traded or waived prior to Opening Night, with Campbell's path to making the roster the longest of the four.
