Couturier scored a hat trick on five shots and added two assists in Saturday's 7-5 win over Minnesota. Couturier had one assist in seven outings this season before breaking out offensively in Saturday's victory. He opened the scoring at the 1:18 mark of the first period and completed the hat trick, his first three-goal performance since Jan. 16, 2019, in the third frame. His five points were a regular-season high for the 31-year-old forward.

Couturier produced an assist in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Flames. Couturier helped out on Joel Farabee's tally in the second period. The 31-year-old Couturier battled a sports hernia late last season, ending the year with 38 points in 74 appearances. Through two games in 2024-25, he's featured in a more limited role, averaging 14:10 of ice time per game while adding just one shot on net, two hits and two blocked shots. At his peak, Couturier was an excellent shutdown center with 70-point potential, but injuries have taken their toll on him. If he remains in a third-line role, his fantasy value is minimal, especially if he eventually loses out on power-play time.

Couturier (abdomen) skated with his potential first-line partners at Friday's training camp session, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Couturier doesn't appear to be suffering any lingering effects from offseason sports hernia surgery and should be all set for the start of the 2024-25 campaign. It's been two years since the veteran center was able to top the 40-point threshold, coming up just two points shy last season. If the Arizona native can get himself back on the No. 1 power-play unit, he should be able to jump back over that mark in 2024-25.

Couturier said he's recovering from a "little sports hernia surgery, lower abs," Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports Thursday. Couturier was limited to a goal and eight points over his final 33 contests in 2023-24 after supplying 10 goals and 30 points across his first 41 appearances. Although it's not clear how long he was dealing with a sports hernia, the injury might help explain his steep decline in offensive production in the second half of the campaign. The 31-year-old will look to rebound next season, but injuries have been a recurring problem -- he missed the entire 2022-23 campaign due to injury and was limited to 29 games in 2021-22.

Couturier (shoulder) expects to return to action Tuesday versus Montreal, Anthony Martineau of TVA Sports reports. Couturier should slot into a top-six role against the Canadiens following his two-game absence. The 31-year-old vet has picked up 11 goals and 36 points through 70 contests this season.
