Top Sharks News

  • Sharks' Libor Hajek: Agrees to one-year deal

Hajek signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sharks on Thursday.

Hajek had six goals, 13 points and 41 PIM in 44 regular-season outings with Pardubice of the Czech League in 2025-26. The 28-year-old also has four goals, 12 points and 40 PIM in 110 career regular-season NHL appearances. He should get serious consideration during training camp for a roster spot with the Sharks.

  • Sharks' Ivar Stenberg: Signs entry-level deal

Stenberg signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Sharks on Thursday.

Stenberg was selected by San Jose with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old excelled in the Swedish Hockey League in 2025-26, providing 11 goals and 33 points in 43 regular-season outings with Frolunda. His experience playing against those much older than him should help the 18-year-old's transition to the NHL. While he'll need to earn his Opening Night roster spot, it wouldn't be surprising to see Stenberg open the campaign with the Sharks in a middle-six role that includes some power-play ice time.

  • Sharks' Kyle Keyser: Lands with San Jose

Keyser signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sharks on Wednesday.

Keyser split time between AHL Colorado and ECHL Utah last season. Across 15 regular-season appearances with Colorado, he went 9-4-1 with a 2.09 GAA and .922 save percentage, while he went 6-4-1 with a 2.43 GAA and .917 save percentage across 12 regular-season outings with Utah. He hasn't yet made his NHL debut and will likely spend most of his time in the minors with his new team.

  • Sharks' Brett Leason: Snags two-way deal

Leason inked a one-year, two-way contract with San Jose on Thursday.

Leason logged just six games for the Capitals last year, failing to register a point while notching 10 hits and one shot. At this point, the 27-year-old winger is more of an organizational depth piece that will help San Jose's minor-league system. As such, fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting him to make much of an impact.

  • Sharks' Tye Felhaber: Joining San Jose

Felhaber signed a contract with the Sharks on Wednesday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

Per PuckPedia, it's a one-year, two-way contract. The 27-year-old forward played exclusively in the AHL in 2025-26, earning 15 goals and 16 assists over 63 regular-season outings as well as seven points over 17 playoff contests. Felhaber will likely play all of 2026-27 in the AHL.

  • Sharks' Alex Barre-Boulet: Inks deal with Sharks

Barre-Boulet signed a contract with the Sharks on Wednesday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

According to PuckPedia, it's a two-year, $1.75 million contract. Barre-Boulet was a point-per-game player in the AHL in 2025-26, logging 26 goals and 44 assists over 70 regular-season outings, though he dipped to 12 points in 17 playoff games. Barre-Boulet will likely spend most of 2026-27 in the AHL, but he could get a look at times as a depth forward.

  • Sharks' Darnell Nurse: Heading to San Jose

Nurse was acquired by San Jose from Edmonton on Wednesday in exchange for Shakir Mukhamadullin and Zack Sharp.

Edmonton wanted to get out from under Nurse's $9.25 million cap hit through 2029-30, but that doesn't mean the 31-year-old lacks value. Far from it, Nurse is a good top-four defenseman who plays a physical game while also chipping in offensively. He had seven goals, 24 points, 104 PIM, 137 hits and 167 blocks in 82 regular-season appearances with Edmonton in 2025-26. Nurse should get big minutes and provide veteran leadership to a young Sharks club that is on the rise.

  • Sharks' Andre Gasseau: Secures entry-level deal

Gasseau signed a two-year, entry-level contract with San Jose on Wednesday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Gasseau just finished his fourth year at Boston College, notching six goals and 17 helpers in 23 appearances. The 2021 seventh-round pick figures to spend the majority of his contract in the minors, adjusting his game to the professional level. At this point, Gasseau might be far enough away from seeing NHL action that he isn't worth stashing yet.

  • Sharks' Eric Comrie: Lands two-year contract

Comrie signed a two-year, $2.3 million contract with the Sharks on Wednesday.

Comrie made a career-high 25 regular-season appearances in the NHL with Winnipeg last year, going 12-11-1 with a 3.13 GAA and .890 save percentage. He's made at least 20 regular-season NHL appearances in back-to-back years and will likely have the opportunity to compete for a depth role with the Sharks during the 2026-27 campaign.

  • Sharks' Mason Marchment: Signs five-year contract

Marchment agreed to terms on a five-year, $33.75 million deal with San Jose on Wednesday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Marchment ended the 2025-26 season on a high note, tallying two goals and seven assists in his last eight games with the Blue Jackets. Overall, the 31-year-old winger compiled 19 goals and 45 points in 68 games between Columbus and Seattle. He figures to slot into a middle-six role for San Jose, but he could push further up the depth chart as the season progresses.

  • Sharks' Jacob Trouba: Staying on West Coast

Trouba signed a four-year, $33 million contract with San Jose on Wednesday.

Trouba missed just one regular-season game for the Ducks last year and recorded 10 goals and 25 assists along the way. His 35 points represent his highest total since 2021-22, when he was with the Rangers. With the Sharks, the veteran defenseman should see plenty of minutes while seeing time on the penalty kill.

  • Sharks' Michael Kesselring: Pens three-year deal

Kesselring signed a three-year, $13.5 million contract with the Sharks on Sunday, according to PuckPedia.

Kesselring played in only 34 regular-season games with Buffalo in 2025-26, in part due to injuries, but he fell out of favor with the coaching staff even when he was healthy later in the year. The 26-year-old was acquired from the Sabres on June 17 and should be much more of a factor with the Sharks, who have been in need of a right-shot defenseman. However, San Jose selected two right-shot blueliners in the first round of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, so Kesselring probably won't be in the team's plans after his new deal expires. Kesselring's three-year deal also doesn't include any trade protection.

  • Sharks' Brady Knowling: Latest steal for San Jose

Knowling was the 127th overall pick by San Jose in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Knowling was the No. 1 goaltender for the USNTDP this past season and finished the year as the top-ranked North American netminder by NHL Central Scouting. He played for Team USA at both the World U18's and World Juniors, although he posted a save percentage below .900 everywhere he played, including the two international tournaments. Knowling's play is often inconsistent, but he's also 6-foot-5 and north of 200 pounds. He moves well for a big kid, so the upside is legitimate if he can clean up some shortcomings in his game. Knowling, who was born in Toronto and has dual citizenship, is a 2027-28 commit to Boston University.

  • Sharks' Zack Ostapchuk: Signs four-year extension

Ostapchuk signed a four-year, $9.4 million contract with San Jose on Saturday.

Ostapchuk set career bests with four goals and seven points in 59 games during the 2025-26 campaign. He also delivered a 51.6 faceoff win percentage. Ostapchuk is best known for his grit, recording 140 hits and averaging 2.92 blocked shots per 60 minutes. He will continue to provide the Sharks with a bottom-six edge in 2026-27.

  • Sharks' Ryan Lin: Outstanding skater drafted 21st

Lin was the 21st overall pick by San Jose in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft on Friday.

Lin might be the smartest player in the 2026 draft class. He's a mobile skater, strong in transition and has great gap control. His offense is solid, if unspectacular, so that won't be his calling card in the NHL even if he can run the second power-play unit. Lin is 5-foot-11, so his intense compete helps offset his lack of size. And he's a right-handed shot, which means he'll get every opportunity to become San Jose's number four defender. Lin is a poster child for today's modern NHL defender -- he should be a part of the Sharks' top four for a long time.

  • Sharks' Keaton Verhoeff: Pillar defender taken ninth overall

Verhoeff was the ninth overall pick by San Jose in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft on Friday.

Verhoeff is a physical, top-four defender who consistently earns Aaron Ekblad comps because of his strength, size and booming shot. And they're both righties. Verhoeff has top pairing written all over him because of his compete, but there are some holes in his game that could drive him into a top-four role. Those could be because of his youth -- he played the entire season as a 17-year-old on a very strong NCAA team. Verhoeff looked his age at times, sometimes struggling with reads and decision making. And those hesitations made his feet look a half-step slow. Skating can be improved; hockey sense is harder. Fantasy-wise, he'll be a PP2 guy in San Jose and deliver in multi-category formats. And he and Sam Dickinson could soon be one of the most intimidating pairings in the NHL.

  • Sharks' Ivar Stenberg: Second overall draft pick

Stenberg was the second overall pick by San Jose in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft on Friday.

Stenberg projects as a true number one winger. He has it all -- elite skill at NHL speed, a nasty release, intense compete especially along the wall, and hockey IQ that makes him an instant pro two-way threat. He's already proven his mettle against men in the SHL, where his 33 points and plus-10 rating in 43 regular-season games in 2025-26 stands as one of the league's best-ever under-19 seasons. Better than both Anaheim's Leo Carlsson and Chicago's Anton Frondell. And best since 1998-99 when Daniel and Henrik Sedin delivered 42 and 34, respectively. Plus he was one of Sweden's top-three players at the most recent IIHF World Championship. Stenberg will be a top-six fixture in San Jose instantly, much like Jake Guentzel is in Tampa Bay, and he could end up the best player from the 2026 Entry Draft. He'll be a star skating with Macklin Celebrini.

  • Sharks' Ethan Cardwell: Inks one-year extension

Cardwell signed a one-year, two-way contract with San Jose on Thursday.

Cardwell saw action in just seven regular-season games for the Sharks last season in which he tallied one goal, six shots and nine hits while averaging 11:56 of ice time. The 23-year-old winger was slightly more productive in the minors, generating seven goals and eight assists in 24 regular-season games with the Barracuda. Still, the 2021 fourth-round pick figures to remain a fringe roster player for San Jose heading into the 2026-27 campaign.

  • Sharks' Nolan Allan: Earns two-year deal

Allan signed a two-year contract with the Sharks on Tuesday.

Allan was acquired by the Sharks from the Blackhawks in January but didn't get into a game with either team in 2025-26. The 2021 No. 32 overall pick spent the entirety of the year in the minors, putting up two goals and six points over 29 games with AHL Rockford, in addition to producing two goals and 14 points across 35 regular-season games with AHL San Jose. The Sharks have several pending unrestricted free agents on the blue line, so Allan has an opportunity to be an NHL regular in 2026-27, depending on how the organization proceeds come July 1.

  • Sharks' Andre Gasseau: Acquired in trade

Gasseau and a 2026 fourth-round draft pick were acquired by San Jose from Boston on Thursday in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round selection and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

Gasseau was selected by Boston with the No. 213 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. He had six goals and 23 points in 23 outings with Boston College as a senior in 2025-26. The 22-year-old isn't signed, so the Sharks need to ink him by Aug. 15 or he can become an unrestricted free agent, per Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.
