    Anders Nilsson: Headed for retirement

Anders Nilsson announced Sunday via his personal Instagram account that he has retired from professional hockey.Nilsson's last professional action came with the Senators in December 2019 after he was never able to fully overcome concussion symptoms and recurring neck issues to resume his career. The goaltender played in parts of seven seasons in NHL with the Islanders, Oilers, Blues, Sabres, Canucks and Sens, logging a 59-74-15 record, 3.06 GAA and .907 save percentage across 161 appearances. The 31-year-old was a member of the Lightning's Stanley Cup-winning squad this past season, but he never suited up for Tampa Bay while he was stashed on long-term injured reserve to help the team comply with the salary cap.

Ottawa traded Anders Nilsson (concussion) and Marian Gaborik to Tampa Bay in exchange for Cedric Paquette, Braydon Coburn, and a 2022 second-round pick on Sunday.Nilsson hasn't played since Dec. 16 of last season and is still experiencing some concussion symptoms. The Tampa Bay Lightning have already announced that he will not play this season and will be placed on long-term injured reserve. The 30-year-old netminder will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Senators' Anders Nilsson: Remains status quo

Anders Nilsson's (concussion) status hasn't changed with training camp right around the corner, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. At this point, it seems unlikely the Nilsson will be ready for the start of the season, though it's possible general manager Pierre Dorian just hasn't touched base with the netminder. Even if fully fit, Nilsson figures to begin the year as the No. 2 option behind offseason acquisition Matt Murray.

Senators' Anders Nilsson: Still dealing with concussion symptoms

Anders Nilsson (concussion) has yet to fully recover and continues to suffer from concussion symptoms, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. As a result of Nilsson's continued concussion problems, general manager Pierre Dorian told reporters the Ottawa Senators would be looking for veteran goalie help either via trade of free agency. In 20 appearances for Ottawa last year, the 29-year-old netminder went 9-9-2 with a career-worst 3.18 GAA. Combined with his health concerns, it shouldn't come as a shock to see Ottawa pursuing other options between the pipes.

Senators' Anders Nilsson: Should be ready for next season

General manager Pierre Dorion expects Anders Nilsson (concussion) to be ready when the 2020-21 campaign gets underway, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.Nilsson missed the second half of the 2019-20 campaign due to a concussion, but he passed baseline testing in mid-April, and it sounds like he'll be back to 100 percent whenever next season begins. Craig Anderson won't be re-signing with the Ottawa Senators, which means Nilsson will battle Marcus Hogberg for Ottawa's starting job during training camp. The 30-year-old backstop posted a 9-9-2 record while registering a 3.18 GAA and .908 save percentage in 20 appearances last campaign.

Senators' Anders Nilsson: Clears baseline testing

Anders Nilsson (concussion) passed his concussion baseline testing, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.Nilsson will still need to get back onto the ice and take some rubber before he can be fully cleared to resume playing. Still, it's a step in the right direction and could see the netminder back in the crease if the league resumes the 2019-20 regular season. Otherwise, fans and fantasy owners will need to look forward to next year when the Swede should be the No. 1 option in Ottawa.

Senators' Anders Nilsson: Still recovering from injury

Anders Nilsson (concussion) played his last game before the hiatus Dec. 26, missing nearly three months.Nilsson really wasn't playing that well before the injury took place, and given that the Ottawa Senators are in no hurry to win now, they were also in no hurry to rush him back. Nilsson will likely be in competition with Marcus Hogberg for Ottawa's goaltending top job at the start of 2020-21.

Senators' Anders Nilsson: Ruled out of road trip

Anders Nilsson (concussion) has been ruled out of the Ottawa Senators' upcoming five-game road trip, Steve Lloyd of TSN 1200 Ottawa reports. At this point, it's looking more and more likely that Nilsson won't be ready to return before the 2019-20 campaign comes to an end. If that ends up being the case, the 29-year-old Swede will finish the season having posted a 9-9-2 record while registering a 3.18 GAA and .908 save percentage in 20 appearances.

Senators' Anders Nilsson: Back at practice

Anders Nilsson practiced for the first time since suffering his concussion Wednesday, but there's still no timetable for his return, Brent Wallace of TSN.ca reports.Nilsson has been sidelined for over two months, and although he's clearly making progress in his recovery, there's no reason for the Ottawa Senators to rush him back, as they're not going to make the playoffs in 2019-20. The 29-year-old netminder is still on injured reserve, so news of his activation will precede his return to game action.

Senators' Anders Nilsson: Still not ready

Anders Nilsson (concussion) is making progress but still needs time, Dean Brown of the Ottawa Senators Radio Network reports.Nilsson hasn't resumed practicing yet, and he'll likely need a few sessions before getting back into game action. Marcus Hogberg has made nine appearances in Nilsson's stead and posted a .905 save percentage, but Nilsson should return to a starting role when he's ready.
