    Marc Savard: Officially retires

Marc Savard retired from the NHL on Monday, Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports Boston reports. The 40-year-old has been out of the league for seven years but is now officially hanging up the skates. Savard's career was unfortunately cut short due to several concussion-related injuries. The Ontario native was able to play 13 seasons in the NHL with four different teams, though, totaling 706 points (207 goals, 499 assists) in 807 games -- while hoisting the Stanley Cup with Boston in 2010-2011. On a bright note for Savard, many of his concussion-related symptoms have lessened or vanished after his playing career, and he's reportedly looking into coaching to continue his passion for hockey.

Devils' Marc Savard: Shipped to New Jersey

Marc Savard's $4.1 million cap hit was acquired by New Jersey on Friday, along with a 2018 second-round pick, in exchange for Graham Black and Paul Thompson. This is the second time Savard's contract has been shipped as he remains out on long-term injured reserve after several concussion related issues effectively ended his career. The New Jersey Devils had plenty of cap room and are in the midst of a rebuild. A second-round pick will go a long way towards developing youth for the future.
