  • Marc Gatcomb C | NYI

    Islanders' Marc Gatcomb: Posts helper

Gatcomb logged an assist and three hits in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Rangers.

Gatcomb looked to be slipping into a part-time role last week, but he's retaken a fourth-line spot over Calum Ritchie (lower body) in the past two games. The 26-year-old Gatcomb ended an 18-game point drought with his helper in Wednesday's win. He's produced just three points with 30 shots on net, 108 hits and a plus-1 rating over 24 outings, so he doesn't need to be rostered in most fantasy formats.

  • Bo Horvat C | NYI

Islanders' Bo Horvat: Notches power-play assist

Horvat recorded a power-play assist and four PIM in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Rangers.

Horvat picked up his first point in three games since he returned from a lower-body injury. The 30-year-old center has held onto a top-six role with power-play time. However, he may need time to get back up to speed after missing a total of 14 contests over two absences due to lower-body issues. For the season, Horvat has 21 goals, 13 helpers, 128 shots on net, 30 hits, 36 PIM and a plus-3 rating through 39 appearances.

  • Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Pots power-play goal

Barzal scored a power-play goal on five shots and blocked three shots in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Rangers.

Barzal has now scored in back-to-back games, though he has just three goals to go with 11 assists over 13 contests in January. The center has a power-play point in five of the last seven games. He's up to a total of 13 goals, 44 points, 114 shots on net, 41 PIM, 35 blocked shots and a plus-8 rating through 52 appearances in a top-six role.

  • Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Earns one of each Wednesday

Pageau scored a goal on three shots, added an assist, logged three hits and went plus-2 in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Rangers.

Pageau has four goals and two assists over his last six outings. The 33-year-old center can find bursts of offense at times, so he's worth considering in deeper fantasy formats. Overall, he's at 11 goals, 23 points, 47 shots on net, 62 hits, 41 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating through 45 games.

  • Maple Leafs' Dakota Joshua: Shifts to LTIR

Joshua (kidney) was transferred to long-term injured reserve Wednesday, per PuckPedia.

Joshua still isn't expected to be back before the Olympic break. This procedural move will create more cap flexibility for the Maple Leafs. Joshua can be activated whenever he's ready.

  • Noah Philp C | CAR

Hurricanes' Noah Philp: Off IR, on waivers

Philp (concussion) was put on waivers Wednesday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. The move implies Philp is also no longer in the concussion protocol or injured reserve.

Philp hasn't played since Jan. 6. He has two goals, three points and 30 hits in 17 outings between Edmonton and Carolina this season. The 27-year-old hasn't played in the minors this campaign, but he will presumably report to AHL Chicago if he goes unclaimed.

  • Flames' Blake Coleman: Won't return before break

Coleman (upper body) will not be available until after the Olympic break, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports Wednesday.

Coleman has already been out of action for the Flames' last eight games and now will be unavailable for at least four more. Prior to getting hurt, the veteran forward was on pace to challenge for the 40-point threshold after coming up just one tally shy of that mark last year. At this point, Coleman's 2023-24 campaign (54 points in 78 games) seems to be the exception, rather than the rule.

  • Paul Cotter C | NJ

Devils' Paul Cotter: Struggling in January

Cotter's point drought reached 18 games in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Jets.

Cotter hasn't gotten on the scoresheet in January, coming up empty in 10 games since he was scratched three times to begin the month. The 26-year-old forward is confined to a fourth-line role for now, and with Maxim Tsyplakov getting acquired in a trade with the Islanders on Tuesday, Cotter's playing time could decrease. For the season, Cotter has just 10 points, 44 shots on net, 131 hits and a minus-13 rating over 50 appearances.

  • Jack Hughes C | NJ

Devils' Jack Hughes: Adds two more helpers

Hughes logged two assists and seven shots on goal in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Jets.

Hughes has been a big playmaker lately, earning a goal and 14 assists over his last 14 games. The 24-year-old center is up to 36 points (13 on the power play), 128 shots on net and a minus-6 rating through 35 appearances this season. Hughes can shoot the puck, but he's shooting a mere 2.2 percent in January and just 9.4 percent on the year, numbers that are bound to improve over the rest of the campaign.

  • Jordan Kyrou C | STL

Blues' Jordan Kyrou: Listed as day-to-day

Kyrou (upper body) is day-to-day ahead of Thursday's matchup against Florida.

It's still unclear if Kyrou will play against the Panthers on Thursday, but the 27-year-old winger may have avoided a significant injury after getting hurt in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Dallas. Over the last eight games, Kyrou had three goals, four assists and 21 shots on net. An update on his status could come after Thursday's morning skate.
