Capitals' Sonny Milano: Getting bottom-six minutes

Milano played for the fifth time over eight games in January in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Sharks.

Milano hasn't registered a point yet this month, adding five shots on net and three hits in a bottom-six role. The 29-year-old is getting a steadier run of time due to the injuries that have sidelined Tom Wilson (lower body) and Justin Sourdif (upper body). Once the Capitals are closer to full healthy, Milano is likely to be a healthy scratch rather frequently. He has seven points, 31 shots on net and a plus-1 rating through 28 outings this season.

  • Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Nabs power-play helper in return

Chychrun logged a power-play assist, three shots on goal, two blocked shots and two PIM in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Sharks.

Chychrun missed the previous two games due to an illness. He has a goal and four assists over his last nine contests. The defenseman has been reliable all season with 15 goals, 33 points, 153 shots on net, 59 blocked shots, 39 hits, 39 PIM and a plus-25 rating through 46 appearances in a top-four role. His non-scoring numbers aren't the best, but it's enough to make him a decent option for category coverage in fantasy.

  • Lane Hutson D | MON

Canadiens' Lane Hutson: Supplies two power-play helpers

Hutson notched two power-play assists, blocked two shots and added two PIM in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Sabres.

Hutson's first helper was the 100th of his career, a milestone that took him just 132 games to reach. The defenseman continues to be big on offense in January with three goals and six assists over nine games this month. For the season, Hutson is at eight goals, 47 points (13 on the power play), 78 shots on net, 79 blocked shots and a plus-15 rating through 48 appearances.

  • Noah Ostlund C | BUF

Sabres' Noah Ostlund: Adds two power-play assists

Ostlund logged two power-play assists and three shots on goal in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Canadiens.

Ostlund has three helpers over his last two outings. The 21-year-old is still prone to being an occasional scratch -- he sat out Monday's game versus the Panthers -- but he's been fairly steady in a middle-six role lately. He's up to a total of 15 points, 37 shots on net, 19 blocked shots and a plus-8 rating over 34 appearances this season. Ostlund has potential, but his usage still isn't ideal for fantasy managers in standard formats.

  • Maple Leafs' Matias Maccelli: Dishes two assists

Maccelli notched two assists, including one on the power play, and added four shots on net in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Golden Knights.

Maccelli picked up his first multi-point effort since Jan. 1 with this performance. The winger has six points over eight contests in January, with three of his points coming on the power play. For the season, he's up to 19 points, 39 shots on net and a minus-4 rating across 36 appearances. That's one point better than his 55-game output with Utah in 2024-25, and he's come a long way since his run as a healthy scratch in December. Maccelli will likely continue to offer playmaking upside in a top-six role, especially with William Nylander's (lower body) status in doubt again.

  • Matthew Knies LW | TOR

Maple Leafs' Matthew Knies: Produces pair of helpers

Knies notched two assists in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Golden Knights.

Knies started the game on the third line, but he moved up when William Nylander (lower body) left the contest. This was Knies' first contribution on offense in five games, which explains his slip down the lineup recently. The 23-year-old is at 12 goals, 40 points (five on the power play), 89 shots on net, 98 hits and a minus-3 rating over 44 appearances. Should he reclaim a regular role in the top six, Knies will likely return to productive play.

  • Maple Leafs' Scott Laughton: Tallies in overtime loss

Laughton scored a goal on two shots in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Golden Knights.

Laughton scored for the second time in five games. His tally Thursday put the Maple Leafs ahead 5-3 in the third period, but they weren't able to manage the lead. The 31-year-old center has contributed six goals (two shorthanded), two assists, 35 shots on net, 51 hits, 23 blocked shots and a plus-1 rating across 29 appearances this season, mainly in a fourth-line role.

  • Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly: Lights lamp Thursday

Rielly scored a goal on two shots in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Golden Knights.

Rielly ended a six-game point drought with the goal, which was his first tally since Dec. 8. During his recent slump, he had a minus-3 rating and 12 shots on net. The 31-year-old Rielly can be a high-scoring blueliner, but he won't drive the offense for the Maple Leafs. He's at six goals, 27 points, 89 shots on net, 62 blocked shots and a minus-14 rating over 46 appearances this season.

  • Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews: Finds twine in overtime loss

Matthews scored a goal on two shots and went minus-3 in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Golden Knights.

Matthews' hot January continued with this effort. He has eight goals and three assists over eight contests this month, though his minus-3 rating was his worst in a game since Dec. 20 in Nashville. The star center is up to 23 goals, 38 points, 156 shots on net, 60 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over 41 appearances this season.

  • John Tavares C | TOR

Maple Leafs' John Tavares: Earns two points in overtime loss

Tavares scored a power-play goal and added an assist in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Golden Knights.

Tavares picked up his first multi-point effort since Dec. 28 in Detroit. The 35-year-old center has two goals and four assists over eight outings in January as he continues to provide steady offense in a second-line role. For the season, Tavares is up to 17 goals, 42 points (six on the power play), 115 shots on net, 43 hits and a minus-5 rating across 47 appearances.
