Devils' Jake Allen: Takes tough loss Wednesday

Allen stopped 28 shots in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Sabres,

The veteran netminder battled Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to a scoreless draw through one period, but Buffalo got pucks past Allen in the second and third periods while the New Jersey offense sputtered. Allen has lost four straight starts sandwiched around the Olympic break, and since the beginning of January he's gone 1-7-0 in eight outings with a 2.97 GAA and .888 save percentage.

  • Peyton Krebs C | BUF

Sabres' Peyton Krebs: Two points including GWG

Krebs scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over New Jersey.

After setting up Tage Thompson for the game's opening goal midway through the second period, Krebs converted a feed from his center midway through the third after Thompson had picked Jack Hughes' pocket at the Devils' blue line to create the scoring chance. Krebs has two multi-point performances in the last six games but was held off the scoresheet in the other four, and on the season the 25-year-old has eight goals and 27 points in 58 contests.

  • Sabres' Tage Thompson: Two points in Wednesday's win

Thompson produced a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Devils.

The Olympic gold medalist opened the scoring midway through the second period, converting a 2-on-1 rush on a pass from Peyton Krebs, and Thompson then returned the favor on Krebs' game-winner in the third. Thompson has gotten onto the scoresheet in five straight NHL games and nine of the last 10, racking up six goals and 11 points over that latter stretch.

  • Maple Leafs' William Nylander: Plucks pair of apples in loss

Nylander recorded two assists and placed four shots on net in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to Tampa Bay.

Nylander picked up both of his assists late in the contest, which included a primary helper on John Tavares' power-play goal. Overall, Nylander is up to 36 assists, 54 points and 90 shots on net across 41 games this season. The veteran winger has been on and off the ice this season, but has led the Maple Leafs in points per game when healthy. He remains an elite fantasy option and is on pace for his fifth consecutive season north of 75 points.

  • Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Nabs win coming out of break

Luukkonen made 27 saves in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Devils.

Timo Meier spoiled Luukkonen's shutout bid late in the third period with New Jersey's net empty, as he jammed home a rebound during a scrum in front of the Buffalo crease, but otherwise the 26-year-old was sharp as the NHL schedule resumed following the Olympic break. Luukkonen has just one regulation loss in his last eight outings dating back to Jan. 6, going 5-1-1 over that stretch with a 2.78 GAA and .912 save percentage.

  • John Tavares C | TOR

Tavares netted the first goal of the night for Toronto on a power play late in the third period. With the twine finder, he is up to 21 goals, 48 points, 143 shots on net and 52 hits across 58 games this season. Dating back to Jan. 15, he has five goals, 29 shots on net and eight points across 12 games. The veteran center should continue to provide a steady source of offense for Toronto, giving him solid fantasy value moving forward.

  • Matthew Knies LW | TOR

Overall, the 23-year-old winger is up to 15 goals, 33 assists, 107 shots on net and 112 hits across 55 games this season. The physical forward is on pace for a new career-high in points and offers strong category coverage in fantasy, giving him strong value in most leagues moving forward.

  • Lightning's Charle-Edouard D'Astous: Supplies pair of helpers in win

D'Astous registered two assists in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

D'Astous picked up both of his helpers in the second period, where he slid the primary pass on Brayden Point's goal before adding a secondary helper on Gage Goncalves' tally. With the pair of apples, D'Astous is up to 16 assists, 19 points, 52 shots on goal, 54 hits and 45 blocked shots across 44 games this season. Wednesday's two-point performance was the 27-year-old's second of the calendar year and raised his point total to 10 over his last 17 games. With a role on the team's second power-play unit, the rookie blueliner is becoming a low-end fantasy option to roster in deep leagues due to his solid category coverage.

  • Lightning's Nikita Kucherov: Records 700th assist

Kucherov scored a goal, recorded two assists, put two shots on net and tallied two blocked shots in Wednesday's 4-2 win over Toronto.

Kucherov's three-point outing was highlighted by a primary assist on the team's second goal in less than 60 seconds, which became No. 700 in his career. With Wednesday's strong performance, the 32-year-old winger is up to 30 goals, 64 assists and 158 shots on goal across 52 games this season. Kucherov's trio of points brought his point total up to 27 during his 11-game point streak. He's on the heels of Connor McDavid in the race for the Art Ross Trophy, and given Kucherov's hot streak of 51 points across his last 21 games, he should stay at the heart of the conversation until the end of the regular season.

  • Lightning's Gage Goncalves: Adds trio of points in win

Goncalves tallied a goal, supplied two assists, and placed two shots on net in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

Goncalves found the back of the net after dangling back and forth past Toronto's Anthony Stolarz. The goal not only resulted in a fight between Goncalves and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, but it also helped Nikita Kucherov eclipse the 700-assist mark in his career. Overall, the 25-year-old Goncalves is up to seven goals, 13 assists, 46 shots on net and 54 hits across 52 games this season. His three-point night brought his point total up to 20, which tied the career high he set in 60 regular-season games a year ago. The young forward also drew a favorable line assignment alongside Jake Guentzel on the second unit, which could make Goncalves a sneaky fantasy add in deeper leagues for the time being.
