Filip Gustavsson G | MIN
Wild's Filip Gustavsson: Cruises to win Thursday
Gustavsson stopped 29 of 30 shots in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Flames.
Gustavsson had an easy matchup on paper, as the Flames entered Thursday's game ranking 31st in the NHL in goals scored per game, so he didn't have problems cruising to a victory. Gustavsson has lost in regulation just once in nine January appearances, going 5-1-2 with a 2.86 GAA and a .903 save percentage in that stretch.

Michael Carcone LW | UTA
Mammoth's Michael Carcone: Lights lamp Thursday
Carcone scored a goal, registered an assist, put two shots on net and dished out four hits in Thursday's 5-4 loss to Carolina.
Carcone's multi-point night started with a secondary helper on Kailer Yamamoto's second goal before later scoring himself seven minutes into the third period. Overall, the 29-year-old Carcone is up to 11 goals, 10 assists, 104 shots on net and 88 hits across 52 games this season. While his numbers haven't jumped off the page this season, he's compiled a solid run of play with five goals, eight points, 26 shots on net and 21 hits across his last 13 games. He's featured on Utah's second power-play unit and is also on pace for a new career high in points if he can surpass the 29 he totaled across 74 regular-season games during the 2023-24 campaign. If Carcone can remain a secondary contributor from the Mammoth's middle six, he holds sneaky value in deep fantasy leagues.

Devin Cooley G | CGY
Flames' Devin Cooley: Beaten three times Thursday
Cooley stopped 20 of 23 shots in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Wild. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.
Cooley has lost each of his past three starts, but win-loss record aside, his performances haven't been all that bad. He has allowed three or fewer goals in each of his last six starts dating back to Dec. 20, going 3-2-1 with a 2.00 GAA and an impressive .933 save percentage over that stretch. Cooley should remain in a backup role behind Dustin Wolf, so his fantasy upside will be matchup-based in a best-case scenario, but his recent form suggests he's worth a look in specific situations when he's confirmed as the starter.

Morgan Frost C | CGY
Flames' Morgan Frost: Pots goal in loss
Frost scored a goal, took two shots on goal and blocked two shots in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Wild.
Frost's fantasy appeal won't be very high in most formats due to his bottom-six role, but he's been making the most of his opportunities of late after scoring in two of his last three games. The 26-year-old is up to three goals and six points over 13 appearances in January, so while he might have some upside in deep formats, he has limited upside in standard leagues due to his role in the lineup.

John-Jason Peterka RW | UTA
Mammoth's JJ Peterka: Finds twine in loss
Peterka scored a goal in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Hurricanes.
After Carolina's Shayne Gostisbehere scored late in the third period to tie the game at two apiece, Peterka responded within 19 seconds with a goal of his own to help the Mammoth take the lead back. Overall, the 24-year-old winger is up to 19 goals, 35 points and 108 shots on net across 54 games this season. Over his last eight games, he's been a relatively steady goal scorer with four twine finders to go with an assist and 13 shots on net. While his playmaking this season has taken a step back compared to the 41 helpers he posted with the Sabres a season ago, he's on track to at least match his career high of 28 goals from the 2023-24 campaign. Peterka remains a solid player across most standard fantasy leagues thanks to his high goal-scoring upside.

John Gibson G | DET
Red Wings' John Gibson: Makes 20 saves in SO loss
Gibson stopped 20 of 23 shots in Thursday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Capitals.
Gibson won eight games in a row between Jan. 5 and Jan. 24, so some kind of negative regression was expected, and he's dropped his last two outings (0-1-1) since then. With that being said, he's allowed just five goals on 44 shots in that span, so he hasn't had bad performances in the two games he didn't win. Gibson has been excellent this month with an 8-2-1 record, 1.89 GAA and .929 save percentage over 11 outings.

Alex DeBrincat RW | DET
Red Wings' Alex DeBrincat: Three points in SO loss
DeBrincat recorded two goals and an assist in Thursday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Capitals.
DeBrincat found the back of the net for a third straight game and has cracked the scoresheet in seven of his last 10 outings, tallying four multi-point efforts in that stretch. DeBrincat has been one of the most consistent players for Detroit all season long, and the numbers back that up since he's averaging over a point per game in January -- he has 17 points (10 goals, seven helpers) in 14 games this month.

Kailer Yamamoto RW | UTA
Mammoth's Kailer Yamamoto: Records three points Thursday
Yamamoto scored two goals, supplied an assist and fired five shots on net in Thursday's 5-4 loss to Carolina.
Yamamoto found the back of the net twice in just over four minutes in the second period to give Utah a 2-1 lead. He later recorded a helper on Michael Carcone's goal to secure the three-point performance. Overall, the 27-year-old Yamamoto is up to seven goals, seven assists, 29 shots on net and 18 hits across 32 games this season. The three-point effort was the third of his nine-year NHL career and the second multi-point game across his last four appearances. While Yamamoto has been a healthy scratch for periods of time this season, performances such as Thursday's could make him a regular contributor in Utah's bottom six, which would boost his ceiling in fantasy.

Dylan Strome C | WAS
Capitals' Dylan Strome: Extends productive stretch
Strome recorded a goal and an assist in Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over the Red Wings.
Strome went pointless in the 5-1 loss to the Kraken on Tuesday, but that was one of the two games in which he hasn't been able to crack the scoresheet in his last 10. During that productive stretch, Strome has tallied 11 points (five goals, six assists), 27 shots and six blocked shots despite a minus-3 rating.

Jordan Staal C | CAR
Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Nets late game-winner
Staal scored the game-winning goal and placed two shots on net in Thursday's 5-4 win over Utah.
Carolina's captain scored the final of three goals in the last two minutes of the contest to help the team pull off a late comeback. With the game-winning twine finder, Staal is up to 12 goals, 22 points, 69 shots on net, 96 hits and 28 blocks across 50 games this season. While he's slightly behind the necessary pace to match his point total of 36 across 75 regular-season games a year ago, he's just one goal shy of matching the 13 he posted. His offensive output isn't enough to warrant much fantasy consideration in standard formats, but his category coverage makes him a worthy option in deep leagues, as he's on track to record his 11th consecutive season with both 100-plus shots and hits.
