The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed relief pitcher David Herndon off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.
Herndon pitched in five games for the Phillies this season before undergoing Tommy John surgery in mid-June. He allowed four earned runs in 7 2/3 innings. He is not expected to be ready by the beginning of the 2013 season.
Overall, Herndon was 2-8 with a 3.85 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 76 strikeouts in 117 innings with the Phillies. He has also picked up one save, which came in his last appearance of 2011 in the 13th inning of a game against the Braves in late September.
