The Brewers have officially called up shortstop Jeff Bianchi, as we reported Tuesday, and they've also called up right-handed pitcher Tyler Thornburg from Triple-A Nashville of the Pacific Coast League, tweeted Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Going the other way is right-handed pitcher Tim Dillard, who has been sent outright to Triple-A to free up a spot on the 40-man roster.
Dillard was 0-2 this season with a 4.38 ERA in 37 innings of relief out of the Brewers' bullpen. Opponents were hitting .302 against him.
Thornburg has spent time in Double-A and Triple-A this season, and he made one start for the Brewers back on June 19 against Toronto. He allowed five earned runs in 5.1 innings, and took a no decision in a game the Brewers would eventually lose 10-9.
Between Double-A and Triple-A this year, Thornburg sports a 9-1 record with a 3.04 ERA, and 77 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched. He'll pitch out of the bullpen for now, tweeted MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.
