When your starting outfield consists of Scott Podsednik, Ryan Kalish and a first baseman in right-fielder's clothing (Adrian Gonzalez), then you've either planned poorly or experienced an unanticipated run of injuries. In the case of the Red Sox, it's the latter.
At present, the Red Sox have five outfielders on the disabled list: Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jason Repko, Cody Ross, and the freshly injured Ryan Sweeney. So it's welcome news that one of those outfielders, Ross, may soon rejoin the active roster. The Boston Globe's Pete Abraham reports that Ross, who's been on minor-league rehab assignment, could be actived in time to play Tuesday against the Marlins.
Ross, who's been out since May 18 with a fractured foot, is hitting .271/.349/.534 on the season and has seen action at all three outfield positions.
