The strange season of Drew Sutton continues, as he will once again be a Pirate.
Sutton, a 28-year-old infielder, spent 24 hours as a member of the Pirates earlier this season, before being traded to the Rays. After Tampa Bay placed him on waivers to make room for Jeff Keppinger this week, the Pirates have claimed him, the team announced.
A member of the Red Sox last season, Sutton started the season with the Braves' Triple-A Gwinnett team, before being traded to the Pirates for cash considerations last month. The Pirates had him for a day before trading him to the Rays for cash considerations when Tampa Bay placed Keppinger on the disabled list.
To make the story all that more odd -- in 2009, the Reds traded Keppinger to the Astros for Sutton. Oh, and Keppinger was originally drafted by Pittsburgh.
In 18 games for the Rays, Sutton hit .271/.314/.354 in 51 plate appearances, playing third base, second base and first base. In parts of four seasons with the Reds, Indians, Red Sox and Rays, Sutton has a career slash line of .261/.320/.391 in 229 plate appearances, playing all four infield position and both corner outfield slots.
