Chavez heads to K.C. (US Presswire) |
The Royals and Endy Chavez have agreed to terms on a minor-league contract, the club announced Monday.
Chavez, 34, can play all three outfield spots and appears to be headed for a competition with Jarrod Dyson for the Royals' fourth-outfielder role, backing up Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain and Jeff Francoeur.
Chavez hit .203/.236/.278 with two homers, 12 RBI, six doubles and three steals in just 169 plate appearances last season. But he hit .301 with 10 steals in limited duty in 2011.
Also, perhaps Chavez brings a little playoff fortune with him? He played for the Rangers in 2011 and the Orioles in 2012. In 11 big-league seasons, he has made the playoffs three times.
