Marlins outfielder Cole Gillespie hit his first home run in over a year, as he went deep in the 14-3 rout of the Reds on Saturday. Gillespie went 3 for 5 with two RBI and three runs scored. His solo homer got the scoring started in the fifth inning for Miami, as it cut the Reds' lead to 2-1 at the time. The big day at the plate raised his batting average up to .333 for the season.
The last time Gillespie hit a home run was June 7, 2014. This was also Gillespie's third career three-hit game, with the prior one coming in August of 2013.
