Indians outfielder Michael Brantley will be inactive for 3-6 weeks after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia, the club announced Thursday. Brantley is expected to resume his offseason workouts at some point in November.
Brantley had the best year of his career in 2012, establishing himself as Cleveland's starting center fielder and hitting .288/.348/.402 in 149 games. So far, he is the only piece from the CC Sabathia trade with Milwaukee in 2008 to pan out -- Matt LaPorta has been awful in the majors, Rob Bryson continues to toil in Double-A, and Zach Jackson was last seen in Triple-A for the Texas Rangers.
