Hunter Pence could be on his way out of Philly, but David Ortiz is staying put.
- Trading Hunter Pence should be a priority, said philly.com's Matt Gelb. It's unclear whether the Phillies will commit to Pence long-term, so it makes sense to move him. Since Pence is signed through the 2013 season, he could have move value than Cole Hamels. Pence could bring back a third-base prospect, or a young outfielder. The team might be better off dealing Pence and trying to keep outfielder Shane Victorino.
- If the Red Sox do sell, David Ortiz will be safe, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford. The 36-year-old DH is hitting .312/.406/.607 this season.
- The Red Sox, however, could trade away some of their outfielders, said Comcast Sports Net's Sean McAdam. With Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury close to returning; Scott Podsednik, Daniel Nava and Ryan Sweeney could all be moved.
- The Cardinals will seek pitching help at the deadline, according to stltoday.com's Joe Strauss. They probably won't have the pieces to get Zack Greinke or Cole Hamels, but the Cardinals could be in on a second-tier starter. The team may be willing to include pitching prospect Shelby Miller in a deal.
- The Orioles will look for a leadoff hitter at the deadline, said The Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly. Orioles leadoff hitters have combined for a .246 on-base percentage this season.
