The Rangers couldn't find a taker for veteran catcher Yorvit Torrealba and placed him on unconditional release waivers, the team announced on Wednesday.
Torrealba was designated for assignment on July 31 after the team acquired Geovany Soto from the Cubs. The team tried to trade him, but couldn't find a taker for him. If Torrealba isn't claimed on waivers, he'll become a free agent on Friday.
The 34-year-old Torrealba hit .236/.302/.342 with three home runs for the Rangers. He's a career .258/.317/.387 hitter with 55 home runs in parts of 12 seasons with the Giants, Mariners, Rockies, Padres and Rangers.
