Red Sox reliever Jean Machi picked up his fourth save of the season on Monday, but it wasn't without drama. Machi entered the ninth inning with the Red Sox up by two. He allowed the first two batters to reach base safely, one of which came around to score.
But Machi was ultimately saved by a terrific catch in right field by Rusney Castillo to end the threat and close out the game, preserving the 4-3 win over the Yankees.
Machi has been scored upon in five of his 14 appearances since joining the Red Sox at the July 31 trade deadline. He is a perfect 4-for-4 in save opportunities, however. Despite Monday's rough outing, manager Torey Lovullo is committed to Machi as his closer for the time being.
