The Giants and Brian Wilson are "nowhere near agreement" on a contract for 2013 and it appears likely Wilson will be non-tendered, Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area reported Friday.
Wilson, 30, threw just two innings in 2012 before an elbow injury forced him to undergo his second Tommy John surgery. He spent the previous four seasons as the Giants' closer, amassing a 3.00 ERA (135 ERA+) and 163 saves in 264.1 innings.
Wilson, a former Super-Two eligible player, earned $8.5 million in his third arbitration season last year and would be looking at a similar salary this season if tendered a contract. The Giants have been pushing for a lower base salary with playing time incentives, but Wilson appears to prefer to try his luck in the free-agent market.
The Dodgers, Angels and Red Sox have all expressed interest in Wilson, with recent rumors about the Red Sox appearing the strongest so far. With Ryan Madson picking up a $3.5 million contract with $3.5 million in potential incentives after a lost year to Tommy John surgery from the Angels earlier in the week, expect Wilson to pursue something similar.
