The Phillies wanted a significant haul from the Pirates for Hunter Pence at the deadline, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.
The Phillies asked for outfielder Starling Marte, pitcher Brad Lincoln and more, for the 29-year-old Pence.
Pence was eventually sent to the Giants for outfielder Nate Schierholtz, catching prospect Tommy Joseph and pitcher Seth Rosin.
The Pirates elected to keep Marte at the deadline, but dealt Lincoln to Toronto for Travis Snider.
