The Reds are in the playoff hunt, but could bolster their chances by adding a leadoff hitter, said the Cincinnati Enquirer's Jon Fay.
Phillies outfielder Juan Pierre and Twins outfielder Denard Span could be good fits. Pierre, whose contract is up at the end of the season, is hitting .316/.354/.385 this season.
Span isn't performing as well, hitting .278/.340/.380, but he's younger and under contract through at least the 2014 season. Span's contract includes a $9 million team option for 2015.
Span's asking price is "very high," Fay tweeted.
Fay also mentioned that he doesn't see the Reds going after pitcher Cole Hamels.
