The disabled list got a little crowded before Saturday night's game, as the Reds, Orioles and A's placed everyday players on the disabled list.

• Oakland placed outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on the DL with a strained muscle in his left hand. The move is retroactive to May 7. The team recalled infielder Josh Donaldson.

Cespedes is hitting .245/.319/.434 with five homers in 28 games. Donaldson has already appeared in nine games for the A's this season, managing just three hits in 32 at-bats (.094). Donaldson was hitting .447/.509/.830 with five homers in 13 games at Triple-A Sacramento.

• The Reds placed third baseman Scott Rolen on the DL with a strained left shoulder.

"I was struggling. I called in today about noon and said that this isn't working," Rolen told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. "I'm hurting, I'm in pain. I'm not healthy right now and as much as I want to help the team, I am hurting the team."

Rolen is hitting .174/.238/.304 with two homers in 29 games this season.

The Reds purchased the contract of Costanzo, who was hitting .303/.402/.541 with six homers between Triple-A Louisville and Double-A Pensacola. The 28-year-old has never played in the big leagues.

• In Baltimore, third baseman Mark Reynolds was put on the DL after pulling a muscle in his rib cage during batting practice on Friday. He's the third player to be put on the DL in three days by the Orioles, following Endy Chavez and reliever Matt Lindstrom.

Reynolds is hitting .191/.324/.337 with two homers in 27 games.

To replace Reynolds on the roster, the Orioles called up veteran utility man Bill Hall. Hall, 32, hit .211/.261/.314 with the Astros and Giants in 2011. He was hitting .222/.269/.381 in 15 games at Triple-A Norfolk.
