Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: IL move made official
The Red Sox placed Jansen on the 15-day injured list Monday with right shoulder inflammation, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
The move was reported Sunday and now the transaction is official, which ends Jansen's season. Jansen has battled through a shoulder problem throughout this month, and since the Red Sox are out of the playoff hunt, they have opted to go ahead and shut him down. The Red Sox will turn to Chris Martin and Justin Slaten as closer options over the final week of the season. Jansen will be a free agent this offseason and has likely thrown his last pitch for the Red Sox.

Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: Set to go on IL
Manager Alex Cora told reporters Sunday that Jansen is likely to be placed on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a right shoulder injury, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Jansen has been battling through a nagging right shoulder issue over the past week, and the 36-year-old closer is set to be shut down for the rest of the regular season. Chris Martin and Justin Slaten will handle the closing duties for the final games of the regular season with Jansen sidelined. Jansen finishes his second year in Boston with 27 saves while registering a 3.35 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 61:20 K:BB across 53.2 innings, and he will be a free agent this offseason.

Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: Returns with clean frame
Jansen (shoulder) threw a perfect ninth inning in Friday's extra-innings loss to the Twins. He did not record a strikeout.
Jansen was said to be dealing with a shoulder issue earlier in the week, but he was available in his normal spot Friday and ended up retiring the side on 11 pitches (nine strikes). While the veteran's command and velocity have both been affected by the shoulder recently, there has been nothing to suggest the team will need to shut him down early, though that's not completely out of the question with Boston's playoff chances dwindling. Jansen is a free agent this winter.

Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: Battling shoulder issue
Manager Alex Cora said after Wednesday's game versus Tampa Bay that Jansen is dealing with a shoulder injury, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Jansen struggled with command issues and decreased velocity during his outing Wednesday, which prompted a visit from Boston's training staff with two outs in the ninth inning. He was able to remain in the game and secure his 27th save of the season, but it's possible the Sox make the 36-year-old unavailable out of the bullpen over the next few days due to his shoulder.

Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: Sharp for 26th save
Jansen (lat) struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 7-5 win over the White Sox.
Jansen was dealing with a lat injury that made him unavailable to pitch Friday, two days after a four-run meltdown versus the Mets. He wasn't heavily tested in Saturday's contest, as he required just seven pitches (six strikes) to retire the side for his 26th save in 30 chances this season. Jansen is at a 3.62 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 58:18 K:BB through 49.2 innings, though he had allowed seven runs over 4.2 innings across his previous six appearances before his clean outing Saturday.

Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: Unavailable due to lat issue
Jansen indicated after Friday's game against the White Sox that he was unavailable to pitch due to a lat issue, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.
The Red Sox had a save situation in Friday's game, but Josh Winckowski got the call in the ninth inning instead. Jansen didn't provide a specific timeline for his return, saying that he wouldn't pitch again until the issue is fully resolved. Winckowski appears to be the next man up as closer, but Chris Martin, Justin Slaten and even Liam Hendriks (elbow) might also be factors in the ninth depending on how long Jansen is unavailable.

Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: Blows save but grabs win Friday
Jansen (4-2) blew the save but picked up the win in Friday's 7-5 extra-inning win over Detroit, allowing a run on two hits in the ninth. He struck out two.
Called in to protect a one-run lead, Jansen gave up a leadoff single to Zach McKinstry before Jake Rogers laced a one-out double, tying the game at 4-4 and sticking Jansen with his fourth blown save this year. However, he'd wind up with the win after Boston responded with three runs in the top of the 10th. It's the first blown save in over a month for Jansen, who had allowed just two runs on two hits in his last 10 innings prior to Friday. The veteran closer has converted 25 of 29 save chances this year with a 2.98 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 56:15 K:BB across 48.1 innings.
