He pitched in Korea last season but was pitching out of a big league bullpen with the Reds as recently as 2015. His career stats in the majors (5.47 ERA, 1.50 WHIP in 200.2 innings) point to Balester serving as organizational bullpen depth.

The Pirates have traded right-hander Collin Balester to the Reds for a player to be named, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has reported.
The 29-year-old Balester has pitched in 73 major league games, but has spent most of his career in the minors. He has performed well in 2015 with 26 hits allowed in 35 innings and a strong 2.31 ERA in 21 appearances at Double-A and Triple-A.

The Rangers made another wave of roster cuts Tuesday, optioning pitchers Jeff Beliveau and Wilmer Font, outfielder Engel Beltre and first baseman Mike Olt to Triple-A Round Rock. Texas also moved first basemen Brandon Allen and Brandon Snyder, catchers Jose Felix and Juan Apodaca, pitchers Collin Balester, Neal Cotts, Evan Meek and Yoshinori Tateyama to its minor-league camp.
Olt is viewed as one of the club's top prospects, but struggled during his spring audition and hit just .194 in Cactus League play. The 24-year-old did manage two homers and should rise to the Rangers later in the year.
