Mike Dunn: Ending career
Dunn announced Tuesday that he has elected to retire from professional baseball, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Citing a desire to spend more time with his family, the 34-year-old Dunn will step away from baseball after spending parts of 11 seasons in the majors with the Yankees, Braves, Marlins and Rockies. Dunn enjoyed his best years as a lefty specialist for Miami from 2011 through 2016, with his success in that role earning him a three-year, $18 million deal from the Rockies prior to the 2017 season. Dunn's numbers fell off in a major way during his time in Colorado, and MLB's decision to implement a three-batter minimum in 2020 likely resulted in him drawing limited interest when he became a free agent this winter. Rather than accepting a minor-league deal and pursuing a long-shot bid at an Opening Day roster spot, Dunn will end his playing days with a 4.00 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 9.7 K/9 across 555 career appearances in the majors.

Dunn was designated for assignment Tuesday.

Rockies' Mike Dunn: Lands on IL
Dunn (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
It's unclear when Dunn suffered the injury, which is being described as shoulder inflammation, or how long it will keep him sidelined at this point. Prior to landing on the shelf, Dunn compiled a lackluster 5.19 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB in 17.1 innings of relief (27 appearances). Thursday's starter, Peter Lambert, was summoned to the majors in a corresponding move.

Rockies' Mike Dunn: Available Monday
Dunn (shoulder) is listed among the Rockies' available relievers for Monday's Cactus League game against the Rangers, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
The Rockies eased Dunn into spring action after he required surgery on his left shoulder in September. The southpaw was cleared to make his Cactus League debut Friday versus the Athletics and aced his first test, striking out one as part of a 1-2-3 inning. If used again Monday, he'll likely be in store for another one-inning appearance.

Rockies' Mike Dunn: Expected back for Opening Day
Manager Bud Black said Friday that he expects Dunn (shoulder) to be ready to go for Opening Day, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. "We will monitor him closely early in spring training," Black said. "He's currently throwing off the mound and feeling good."
Dunn was shut down in July with inflammation in the AC joint of his left shoulder and ultimately required season-ending surgery in September. While it doesn't sound like any reconstructive work was necessary for Dunn's shoulder, the Rockies will most likely limit his usage in Cactus League play to avoid a setback heading into the regular season. The southpaw reliever hasn't lived up to expectations since inking a three-year, $19 million deal in December 2016, accruing a 5.61 ERA and 69:46 K:BB across 67.1 innings in 93 appearances.

Rockies' Mike Dunn: Shut down for season
Dunn (shoulder) has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Dunn was hoping to return from the 60-day DL during the Rockies' upcoming series against the Giants, but a setback suffered during the southpaw's rehab assignment effectively ended his season. He's set to undergo surgery on his AC joint in the coming weeks. The veteran reliever was limited to just 17 innings this season due to multiple injuries, struggling to a 9.00 ERA.

Rockies' Mike Dunn: Set for testing due to soreness
Dunn (shoulder) is dealing with soreness and will be evaluated at Coors Field on Monday, Nick Groke of The Athletic Denver reports.
The testing will determine the next step for the southpaw, who holds an ugly 9.00 ERA in 25 major-league appearances this season. Dunn has endured three stints on the disabled list and will need to respond positively to checkups in the next week in order to convince the club he's worth a roster spot down the stretch.

Rockies' Mike Dunn: Aiming for September return
Dunn (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday and expects to return from the 10-day disabled list during the Rockies' series with the Giants that begins Sept. 3, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
The southpaw is in the midst of his third DL stint of the season, this time due to inflammation in the AC joint of his shoulder. Dunn seems to be on the cusp of a return, however, as he tossed a simulated game Friday and reported no pain during the sessions. He'll now prepare for the rehab assignment, with four appearances likely on tap for Dunn during his time on the farm. Once reinstated from the DL, Dunn will presumably be ticketed for a middle-relief role after turning in a 9.00 ERA and 2.35 WHIP over his 17 outings with the Rockies prior to being shut down.

Dunn will be placed on the 10-day disabled list prior to Saturday's game due to an undisclosed injury, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
Dunn recently spent around three weeks on the DL with a shoulder injury, so there's a decent chance that he re-injured the shoulder, though an official announcement from the club should shed some light on the matter within the next few hours. In his place, Jerry Vasto was recalled from the minors.

Dunn (shoulder) tossed a 20-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
