  • Cutter Dykstra: Released Tuesday

Dykstra was released by the Nationals on Tuesday, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports. Dykstra was slashing a solid .297/.381/.365 in 37 games with Double-A Harrisburg before being released, but he'll now hit the open market. The 26-year-old has never advanced beyond the Triple-A level -- and has a career average of just .185 there -- so he likely won't make much, if any, of an impact at the major league level wherever he lands.

  • Nationals' Cutter Dykstra: Re-signs with Nationals on minor league deal

Dykstra signed a minor league contract with the Nationals on Thursday, Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports. Dykstra has spent five seasons in the Nationals' organization and reached Triple-A Syracuse in 2015. He'll return to the organization on a minor league deal that did not include an invite to major league spring training.

  • Nationals reassign six players to minor-league camp

  • Dykstra dealt to Washington

The Brewers traded minor leaguer Cutter Dykstra, along with cash considerations, to the Nationals for OF Nyjer Morgan. He is the son of former major leaguer Lenny Dykstra. He played third base for Wisconsin of the low Class A Midwest League last season, where he hit .312 with 39 RBI and 27 steals. The second-round pick in 2008 also had a stellar .416 on-base percentage. Dykstra is expected to report on Monday and likely to join Potomac of the high Class A Carolina League. "He's an athletic kid, he's a really good runner," Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said. "He's a good offensive player with a high on-base percentage guy and works counts. He's really the type of guy that hits at the top of the lineup. Has a little pop and speed and really commands the strike zone."
