  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Sticking with Giants

Flores (knee) exercised his $3.5 million player option for 2025 on Saturday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Flores slashed just .206/.277/.318 with 26 RBI across 242 plate appearances in 2024 before suffering a season-ending knee injury in late July. Given his poor performance and injured knee, he was unlikely to receive more than $3.5 million on the open market, making it easy to see why he chose to opt in for 2025. It's unknown if he'll be ready for the start of spring training.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Giants transferred Flores (knee) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Friday. The transaction was a procedural move, as Flores had already been ruled out for the season after undergoing a procedure on his right knee earlier this month. The Giants activated left-hander Ethan Small (oblique) from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move and optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento. The 33-year-old Flores slashed .206/.277/.318 with four home runs, 26 RBI and 19 runs over 242 plate appearances before being shut down for the season.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Out for season

Flores (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024 season, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Flores underwent a Tenex procedure on his right knee Tuesday and the Giants ruled the infielder out for the remainder of 2024 following the surgery. The 32-year-old's 12th MLB season comes to and end with Flores having contributed four homers, 19 runs and 26 RBI in 242 plate appearances across 71 games. Mark Canha is slated to platoon with LaMonte Wade at first base in the closing two months of the regular season.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Knee procedure on tap

Flores will travel to Los Angeles and is scheduled to undergo a Tenex procedure on his right knee Tuesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. The Giants are unlikely to provide a recovery timeline for Flores until the procedure is completed, but the veteran first baseman will likely be shut down from baseball activities for several weeks and could face an uphill battle to make it back from the injured list before the end of the season. Before he was deactivated July 25 with what the Giants had termed as right knee tendinitis, Flores operated largely in the short side of a platoon at first base and slashed .206/.277/.318 with four home runs and 26 RBI over 242 plate appearances. Trade-deadline pickup Mark Canha now looks to be the preferred platoon mate at first base with LaMonte Wade.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Headed back to IL

The Giants placed Flores on the 10-day injured list Thursday with right knee tendinitis, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Flores just returned from the same injury a little over two weeks ago, but it appears he might not have ever totally recovered from the issue. He'll be eligible for activation in early August, but the Giants might take things slower this time in hopes that Flores can get over the hump with the injury.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Back from injured list

The Giants reinstated Flores (knee) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Flores landed on the injured list June 28 due to right knee tendinitis, and he's been given the green light to return to the active roster after slightly more than a minimum-length stay on the IL. The 32-year-old has slashed just .206/.282/.317 with 25 RBI in 227 plate appearances, though he'll presumably operate in the short side of a platoon at first base with LaMonte Wade.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Placed on IL

The Giants placed Flores on the 10-day injured list Friday with right knee tendinitis, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Flores has been slumping at the plate lately, going just 2-for-19 with three RBI in his last six games. He'll be sidelined for at least 10 days due to his knee, and starting first base duties will be given back to LaMonte Wade (hamstring), who was activated off the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Getting Tuesday off

Flores isn't in the Giants' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Flores will take a seat Tuesday after going 0-for-4 with an RBI and a walk during Monday's victory. David Villar will take over at first base and bat eighth.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Heading to bench Wednesday

Flores is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Flores has now hit the bench in two straight matchups with right-handed pitchers, though it's not yet clear if he's moved back into a pure platoon role at first base with the lefty-hitting Trenton Brooks, who gets the start Wednesday but is hitting .143 over 21 at-bats since getting called up from Triple-A Sacramento. Flores, meanwhile, is hitting .212 on the season, and he owns a .198/.291/.287 slash line over 117 plate appearances against righties.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Taking seat Monday

Flores is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs. Flores had started at first base in each of the Giants' last five games, with three starts coming versus lefties and two coming versus right-handers. Though the Giants seem content to deploy Flores as their primary first baseman rather than a platoon bat while LaMonte Wade (hamstring) is on the injured list, Flores will nonetheless give way to rookie Trenton Brooks on Monday.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Starting at first

Flores is back in the Giants' lineup versus the Astros on Tuesday. Flores came away with some knee soreness after playing two straight series on turf surfaces in Arizona and Texas. Despite this, he was available off the bench Monday versus the Astros and got a hit in his lone plate appearance. With the 32-year-old starting at first and batting sixth, Trenton Brooks will take a seat.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Dealing with knee soreness

Flores is dealing with knee soreness, but he's available off the bench Monday versus the Astros, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Flores went 3-for-13 with two solo home runs over the team's three-game series in Texas, but manager Bob Melvin said Monday that the 32-year-old's knee is a little sore after San Francisco's second straight series on turf. There currently doesn't appear to be any long-term concern with the veteran's health.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Swats two homers

Flores went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Friday's win over Texas. Flores opened the game's scoring with a solo blast in the second inning before going deep again in the fourth. He's knocked three home runs while driving in seven runs over his last two games. Before that, he was stuck in a 21-game homerless drought, during which he produced a .490 OPS. Flores is now slashing .224/.298/.353 with four home runs and 21 RBI through 52 appearances.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Drives in five in win

Flores went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run and five RBI in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Diamondbacks. The Giants launched three homers on the day, but Flores' grand slam off Jordan Montgomery in the third inning proved to be the biggest blow. Flores snapped a 21-game homer drought with the blast, but that May 4 shot was his only other homer on the season. The 32-year-old's five RBI on Wednesday equaled his total from his prior 26 games combined.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Starting again, but stuck in platoon

Flores will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks. Flores is starting at first base for the fourth time in five games, but all but one of those starts have come against left-handed pitchers. Even with top first baseman LaMonte Wade (hamstring) on the injured list, Flores looks as though he'll remain in the short side of a platoon while recent call-up Trenton Brooks gets the opportunity to make regular starts at the position versus righties.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Hits first homer of season

Flores went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 14-3 loss to the Phillies. Flores has gone 6-for-19 (.316) with three RBI, a homer, a double, and a 3:3 BB:K over his last seven contests. It's been more of the same for Flores this year -- he began the year in a utility role, but he's earned a short-side platoon role with LaMonte Wade at first base over the first month of the campaign. The Giants have had good infield health so far, so it's unlikely Flores carves out a much larger role. He's slashing .234/.322/.325 with five extra-base hits, 12 RBI and seven runs scored across 90 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: RBI double in win

Flores went 1-for-1 with a double and two RBI in a 5-0 win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday. Flores entered in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and immediately smacked a two-run double, which accounted for only his third extra-base hit of the campaign. While he has been on the short side of the platoon with LaMonte Wade at first base, the Giants have found a way to get Flores' bat in the lineup situationally on a regular basis. The 32-year-old has yet to tally a home run in 2024, but given that his slugging percentage (.311) is woefully below his .439 career mark, his power could arrive in short order.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Starting after all

Flores was added to the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. It appeared that Flores would be held out of Monday's contest after taking a tumble Sunday afternoon, but he worked out before the game and ultimately got the green light. He'll man first base and bat fifth.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Not in lineup Monday

Flores (shoulder) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Flores injured his shoulder Sunday after tumbling into the dugout trying to catch a foul ball in the first inning. Tyler Fitzgerald will draw the start at first base and bat ninth in Monday's game against Dodgers left-hander James Paxton.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Dealing with shoulder injury

Flores exited Sunday's matchup with the Padres in the top of the second inning with a right shoulder contusion, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Flores was forced to leave Sunday's series finale with San Diego without even getting an at-bat after he went head over heels into the dugout trying to catch a foul ball in the bottom of the first inning. Luis Matos replaced him in the lineup. Flores will likely undergo additional testing, and more information on his status may be provided following Sunday's contest.
