The Yankees selected McAllister's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.
It's a story in perseverance, as the 35-year-old McAllister hasn't pitched in the majors since 2018, having bounced around to six different organizations since then on minor-league deals. He has earned a promotion by posting a 1.62 ERA and 20:4 K:BB over 16.2 innings with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Cardinals' Zach McAllister: Loses out on roster spot
Rotowire
The Cardinals reassigned McAllister to minor-league camp Wednesday.
McAllister was one of nine players sent out from big-league camp as the Cardinals look to narrow down their roster with Opening Day a week away. Though he was given the chance to compete for a spot in the Cardinals' bullpen to begin the season, McAllister never appeared likely to break camp with the big club. The 34-year-old right-hander has made 280 appearances (68) starts over parts of eight seasons in the big leagues, though he hasn't seen MLB action since 2018.
